So like many of you I'm sure you watched the Cybertruck launch in 2019 where Elon Musk unveiled his radically styled new pickup truck that looked like something from a dystopian future. Just very cool looking all stainless steel body which me being a DeLorean Enthusiast and former owner I was very excited about and the performance and price seemed unbelievable because it was I think originally around $50,000 the base price on these things a range of 500 miles and well that isn't happening.

The current Tesla specs though are pretty incredible. The technology they've come out with is really so far ahead of its time and impressive and blows the competition out of the water. But it isn't what they said it was in 2019 and it is very very expensive. A fully loaded early Founders Edition Cyber truck is $999,900 and if you want that cyber Beast with the TR motor in 2.6 second, 0 to 60 you pay $120,000 to be one of the first and well, I'm going to be one of the first on both of them Believe it or not because that night I did put down the deposit $100 twice because there was the option for the Trotor which I did under one email and then the dual motor I did in the other email I didn't want to be last I wanted to have one of the very first ones so I put put a deposit down on both and then both of those emails came through very recently to where I was able to order a cyber truck which I haven't bought a lot of cars brand new but definitely never bought a new Tesla and I was blown away with how easy it was to go through the order process.
so you can see I had a very early reservation. number 112 was the earliest reservations of the Cyber truck and that got me in very early. but first they were only offering it to Texas and California residents and eventually Tesla was going to come out to the rest of the 50 states. So 1112 is definitely within the first 50,000 or so orders.

which sounds like a lot of orders, but they had over 1 million deposits on Tesla cyber trucks. But now it comes time for people to actually put their money where their mouth. HS they put a $1,000 deposit down now and then figure out how to pay for a cyber truck which the Foundation series is an extra $2,000 over to get one of the first cyber trucks which is a lot of money. It sounds sounds like fluff, but you do get a lot more than laser etched stainless steel.

Now it's only the dual motor all-wheel drive coming out from January to March for these early reservation holders 4.1 second, 0 to 60 340 mile range, 600 horsepower, 11,000 lb towing capacity The Founders Edition does get the bigger Wheels the nice white Decor poers share home backup, standard and full self-driving so it's not all fluff. Now the funny option though, the one thing you can select is $116,000 for the range extender which would take the miles up to 470 Mi at about 130 Mi of range to the truck. not quite getting it to the 500 Miles as promised but still getting it pretty darn close. Way more than a rivan or a Ford lightning or any of the new stuff that's coming around the bend with Chevy and others a large increase.

but it's $166,000 more and it has to get mounted to the truck bed which takes up space. So obviously you have less pickup truck usability. but you do have to wait till later in the year to get your range extender. they're not quite ready ready to send them all out yet.

but that price? $99,900 for a 600 horsepower dual motor cyber truck that is a lot of money. But like I said I had a second very early reservation I did two at the same time so I could have speced out two dual motor Founders editions and had them both here in the next few months. but I didn't do that. So the next one is a cyber Beast with the tri motor where you lose a little bit of range.

but then you get this massive performance 2.6 seconds to 60 in a 6,000 plus pound massive pickup truck just sounds absolutely insane. But I will be in a little bit of a pickle because I don't need two cyber trucks. But also in the contract it says I'm not supposed to sell a cyber truck for a year. They really don't want people flipping and they say in the language that you can be find $50,000 if you flip your cyber truck before the year is out.
Now there's workarounds for this you could do leasing. Some people people are listing their early reservations as leases like one pay leases and at the end of the year they sell it for a dollar Things like that to work around it. but if I were to want to actually sell it, then I could trade it back into Tesla and they get first rer refusal at MSRP minus per mile driven of I think 50 cents or something like that per mile that they can recoup. So I could trade in the early Founders truck for a cyberbeast when it shows up later in the year.

or I could keep both, waight a year and flip them both I don't know honestly because I don't know what the hype's going to be right now, it's at a fever pitch. Elon has reported 10,000 new reservations per day since they had their delivery event last month, so the reservations must be insane. The backlog: I would think even 2third of people who put that $100 deposit down if they backed out, they would still have a backlog of orders for three, four, five years before they meet the demand on these trucks, which is really impressive. So it probably makes sense for me to keep both trucks to keep the one for a year and see what the Market's like after that.

Uh, but if it seems like Tesla is going to build as much as they can build, baby build and sell all these, then it'll become more like this rivan right here where they depreciate more like a used car which will happen eventually. But for now I feel pretty darn smart, hitting that button and seeing cybertruck confirmed and that light bar little animal thing mascot coming through. and then I financed it actually through Tesla 6.99% only 5,000 down. So $1,600 a month is what I'm going to be paying for this first one.

Uh, I get one of the early cyber trucks which they're saying is going to show up in the next month or two, but this could be a big mistake and that's why I have this Rivan right here. So let's talk about it. Yes, this is a 2022 Rivan r1t Adventure Pack and it's actually used. It's from the First full year of production at Rivan and it is less than its MSRP Like a normal car, it's been driven, it's used and it's now less than new.

If you were buying a fully option quad motor Rivan now, you'd be spending $90,000 This one I believe is advertised at Eddie Chevrolet Cadillac for $74 9.95 they just got it in and I do think these are very cool and obviously way cheaper than a Foundation series cyber truck and you get a lot more performance. The First Foundation Edition Cyber Truck I'm getting. remember it's 100 ,000 and I get the dual motor with 600 horsepower and 340 M of range. This one pretty close on the Range but it is a quad motor.

way more horsepower 830 I think horsepower out of these electric motors so the performance much better towing capacity very close. 10,000 lbs on this one, 11,000 lb towing capacity on the Cyber truck. So this is much more comparable to a Cyber Beast that's coming out later in the year. but it is way way less.
We're talking $440,000 less than a cyberbeast. Even new is considerably less. But now that these are starting to hit the used Market a little bit less than their MSRP you do get that big savings which with me I have always bought used because I have champagne tastes on a beer budget so I love depreciation I Love the first owner taking that hit for me so I can enjoy the car at a much more reasonable ownership cost and that's what this Rivan offers right here. And it does have some pluses to the Cyber Tru It also has some major benefits over the previous electric pickup truck.

I had the Ford Lightning pickup which is not even in the same league when it comes to range when it comes to horsepower. When it comes to technology, it's in a whir of itself now. the Cyber truck is certainly a technological Wonder covered in many videos JLo's garage with the engineers fascinating video Jason Kamisa of Hagerty also did a very deep dive comparing the trucks and all the amazing things with the new Tesla the 48 volts, the steer by wire So many cool things coming out with this truck that is certainly the future. But the Rivan does have a lot of cool stuff as well.

and some things I like a lot better than the Cyber truck. So that's why I'm thinking well maybe this would be a mistake in the long term. probably smarter to get a used rivan than the Cyber truck, but I go back and forth. So with that, let's start a tour of this used rivan.

Now there was similar hype to the Rivan when it came out a few years ago. these were trading for well over their MSR RP people were flipping them themselves rather than Tesla marking them up and doing the initial well foundation series. Uh, but the Rivan was a very exciting car. A lot of hype.

their stock prices went crazy for a little bit, then crashed back down to earth over a $100 swing or like 80 90% loss. something like that. Uh, but now they're just consistently building this truck the R1t and their SUV as well with the same nose, but it looks a lot more like a truck than the Cyber truck. but it does have a happy little futuristic face like some kind of robot.

The light bar is very cool and I Don't think there's many people that do not like the styling of the Rivan since it does look very trucky and rugged. It has a wide body, flared hips, nice and boxed off, but it's not weird now when we were going through the most unreliable cars according to Consumer Reports in the Good Morning YouTube episode The Rivan did make the list because of its electrical issues and its uh, Drive Unit failures, but it's still very much underw. This is another thing that is a common failure point on these. If you're looking at one used, you want to make sure it is working, but all these trucks, they're still under warranty and I wouldn't be concerned about buying them reliability wise any more than any other electric vehicle.
they're just more complicated, There's more to go wrong and that's just the way of the world. now. my favorite feature has to be the door handles because they're unlocked right now, when you lock them, they go back in. I Just love how they pop out when you unlock the door and they're happy to see you of the shape kind of lensed to that as well.

The interior is also a huge, huge, massive upgrade from the cybertruck. Tesla has always been very minimalist with their Interiors I'm kind of an old school luxury guy I Love wood and luxury meaning comfortable, nice quality materials and not like spaceship minimalist things like Tesla which the Rivan certainly has the spaceship screens and all that stuff. but then look at the quality of the seats in the interior. There's just a lot of design and thought going on in here and it does make for a very nice place to be.

The wood actually has some texture to it. there's just a lot of mixed metals and different materials going on to where this feels like a very luxurious car which for the price point I think you need to do the roof full glass as well. Plenty of room in the back. But the big downside I do feel like with the Rivan and well with this size of pickup truck is the bed.

This one has the smallest bed of the electric pickup truck class. I think it's just under 5 ft with the Ford Lightning it is a normal quadcab bed at 5 foot 7 or something like that and then the Teslas is much larger, a 6ft bed. but you did see me crawl out of this little cubby right here. It's on both sides for say, like a set of golf clubs or something like that.

They have this extra dead space and they chose to put it in there, which I've actually seen before on Cadillac El Dorado conversions where they made a few El Caminos so they were doing that back in the 70s with that little space much more elegantly done on the Rivan though. and since this is an electric vehicle, the battery is underneath the car. You don't have an internal combustion engine at all. You have a nice frunk UPF front for extra storage.

so the Rivan really is the closest competitor to the Cyber truck. Easier to get, and while the hype has certainly died down on these quite a bit and Tesla is raining on their parade, it does make for a great value proposition as a used car, and we'll see how things go in the next couple of of years. The Hummer EV has much less range and it is still very expensive and it's not all that practical of a truck. The performance is unreal though.

this I think is a perfect blend of something you could actually use that you would actually want to daily drive and you wouldn't have that range, anxiety or a truck bed that's not very usable and its size. it's just not absolutely massive like the Hummer EVS The Tesla is going to be much longer, but it does have four-wheel steering like the Hummer I don't think it can crab walk though and and that steer by wire makes the steering so tight and Nimble that it will be pretty easy to drive at least from what I've seen in the videos we'll see on the steering feedback of that. but this is sort of old school in the steering. and the Truck Driving Experience which I actually kind of like.
So with that, let's take it for a drive. All right. Cruising in the Rivan and my first impression when I got on this thing is it's actually pretty darn comfortable and smooth. There was some thought given to the cushions of the seats.

they actually do feel like there is some cushions in a modern car. Still not the same as my 2005 Escalade but pretty close. And the ride. It is very trucky and solid in that sense, but still very smooth as well.

So I'm impressed on both fronts when it comes to that and the steering. Well, it is very easy as well. Electric power steering obviously has been around for a long time, but I feel like they got it just right in this truck to where it's not quite well, pinky easy at least when you're parked pretty close. Say like what you would have gotten in an old land yacht.

But it does give you enough feedback to where it does feel nice to drive. and the power. Well, it's very, very good. That's a rocket.

That's an absolute crazy rocket ship. Uh, it's kind of scary to think that in the future all of us are going to have that instant torque under our feet. All drivers of all skill levels could sneeze at you and be thrown back and uh I don't know, take out a whole building with their 6,000 plus pound Rivan pickup truck. here.

let me show you with the speedometer just for effect. So I'm not hitting the brake at all because you're 1 foot Drive these things with a regen. But here we go. That's pretty impressive.

and the George Jetson noises are a nice touch as well. I Do like that it makes some noise even though it's not vroom vroom noises. But overall I just do feel like this truck is a very nice place to be. It doesn't feel like you're getting ripped off paying $90,000 new for one of these things for the quality of the Interior you get especially compared to new trucks and how expensive they are.

Internal combustion engines like a fully loaded F-150 even though it's not a lightning uh, can get up into this price point here driving by Hoo's Farm there. But the same will be said for the Cyber trucks too. As much hype as there. is right now for them, they will eventually become commonplace on every corner.

You'll see them everywhere. They'll be used cars. They'll be in the junkyard too. Someday there'll be a cyber Tru just sitting in someone's yard just rotting away.

That's just the reality of the situation. They won't be collector cars. They'll make hundreds of thousands, as if not millions of them. And that's just the circle of life.
So me I am buying into the hype and that might be a little stupid. It would be way smarter to buy a used rivan in my opinion, and this one certainly is a good one for sale right now. At Eddy Chevrolet Cadillac.com you can check out their inventory online I'll put a link below, but I am very excited to get my cyber truck or really two cyber trucks maybe this year if Tesla can pull it off. I Guess we'll see.

Thank you so much for watching.

Like Ford Lightings, I have only seen two Rivian pickups in our area. One of those Rivian trucks was very close in color to the one in your video but looked like it had spent some "quality time" in a rock tumbler as I could not find a spot larger than my hand on the truck that was not seriously dented. Dented beyond belief it might have been, but it was still very much drivable and serving as the owners' daily driver! The second Rivian I have seen looked pristine but was sitting on a third or fourth tier used car lot with a "Make Offer" sign in the windshield. I suspect that one was a flood car, but I have no personal knowledge to prove it as I could not get to it because the dealership was closed and all the vehicles were behind a tall chain link fence topped with razor wire and I'm too old, fat, and delicate to attempt climbing such a fence just to satisfy my curiosity. Not to mention such an action would have been against the law and orange is not my color. Take care and Happy New Year!

It’s a pity the Rivian does not do 500 m8les plus as would be a winner here in Australia, in saying that Australia is about 10 years plus behind most with electric cars. Need longer range here and then some

99,000 battery cell probably going to be 45-50k to fix model S today prices may be around 23-28k and a battery cell musk quotes 20-23k to fix they will depreciate so fast its going to be crazy cool truck but realistically it flops why dont they invest more time into a hydrogen hybrid option 0 emissions plus you get to keep some of the DIY aspects
Thats just a theory a car theory 😅😅😂

Not everyone will have that instant torque, I would never own one of these "trucks" for $90,000 I can get a really nice Cummins, Duramax or Power Stroke. That Cyber truck is the most hideous thing I've ever seen. I was truly hoping that was a joke, but it looks there's enough suckers out there to make them. The Rivion is definitely a better looking car but the front end looks a bit like its mother and father were actually brother and sister. Neither one of these electric car/ truck things will be around after a million miles like your Cummins. In fact they won't even be on the road by the time the children who mind all the materials to build them are old enough to have children of their own to work in the third world slave mines to keep making this trash. I love your show but this is really sad.
