They gave this thing a leather um thing um, you can put coins in it. I guess i don't know money who knows, or you just sit and play with it. It's a very inappropriate thing to play with in your aston martin uh, but they may be judging aston martin owners a little bit because it's only about well, not even an inch deep. So there you go welcome to movies garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and before you today is a pair of very cheap aston martins, even though they look very expensive.

I think aston martin's are the best way to look baller on a budget, and these are two great examples, starting with this 2002 aston martin db7 vantage volante that was featured in the second season of my car issues. Tv show we did some crazy things with it. Take a look wow, a beautiful 2002 aston, martin db7 420 horsepower james. The baddies are giving chase.

Oh geez, two paintballs, it's so hard to aim at aston. Martin got him in the face, like john wick doing that in this car was an absolute dream, come true. So you definitely don't want to miss the second season of car issues with me and the car wizard on motor trim plus. And if you click the link below you can get a subscription for only 99 cents a month for six months.

So, like five six dollars for six months worth of content, all the episodes of car issues, the first season, second season top gear, so much uh, but i actually don't own this car anymore. I sold it to urination bob and uh. He has a price for under 30 000, so a little more than say a base model. Toyota camry i've since bought this a 2005 aston martin db9 with only 25 000, and this was 38 000, which is less than a fully loaded toyota camry we're gon na.

Have this db9 looked over today by the car wizard to make sure it's good, i'm sure it's totally fine, only 25 000 miles and the db7 is up here actually, because the window regulator needs to be fixed and you're, probably thinking 38 nine thousand dollars. Those are great, incredible deals and well actually that's pretty common pricing wise for these cars. If you look recently, there's a cars and bids db9 that sold for 39 000, similar low mileage like this, except in blue and there's plenty of db7s to find for under thirty thousand dollars. These things are cheap.

Both of them were over a hundred and fifty thousand two hundred thousand dollars pushing new, and now they depreciated to well pretty cheap used car levels. And honestly, i don't understand why. But there are a few reasons now, there's, certainly a lot of aston martins that haven't depreciated to this level. The older ones say like a db5 that you would have found in goldfinger, not the bond car, but just a normal db5 is a million dollar car.

Nowadays, a db6 not that far behind it and the advantages and stuff like that very expensive, six-figure cars. But these aren't the db7 was aston martin's. First real mass-market car. Before this point, they were almost bankrupt and they weren't even building a car.
A day like 300 cars sold a year, then aston martin was bought up by ford along with jaguar and they developed this. The design of this car henry fisker ian callum just beautiful, was originally intended actually for jaguar, but they swapped this over to aston martin and they built this car on the old xjs platform. So, basically, you have a 70s jag underneath this beautiful body, but i really like that when we drive this thing in a little bit i'll explain why i like the setup of this car. This is actually the second one of these that i've had the first one was an inline six supercharged jaguar motor, but this one gets the new v12 here developed by ford 2 4 taurus v6 is put together, so you get 420 horsepower in an old-school luxury gt.

Convertible inside very comfortable, very, very nice, but certainly pretty dated at this point and the car is kind of a part spin special. You have climate control and switches from ford. You have a door handle from mazda and tail lights, also from a mazda 323, but it is a gorgeous gorgeous car just on a 1970s platform, so when they came out with the db9. Finally, aston martin got their own platform with a clean sheet of paper and it is completely different.

The inside of this car, even though it's 15 plus years old, looks very modern, not that different from an aston martin say of five years ago. Under the hood is the same v12 as the db7 a little more horsepower, but really they even look almost the same but other than the engine and the general look of these cars. There's nothing else similar about them. The way they look underneath the way they drive.

They both offer pretty different experiences and they're both really really good for the money. We'll start with the db7 push button started on the v12 and we're off just so silky smooth and what i love about the db7 is. It offers this old-school luxury grand touring experience really the last car ever built to offer this to feel like this, but it has modern power, 420 horsepower, which is a plenty say more than a mid-2000s corvette z06 and a beautiful elegant car. Now this thing is not sporty at all and that's what i love about it.

It feels so good these seats, so soft, so comfortable suspension soft, but you know handling's not that bad, but definitely soft by modern car standards and you're. Just cruising this thing. Automakers just aren't building cars like these anymore, because journalists hate them. They can't take them around the track show how good of a driver they are with lap times and all that stuff and just prove how smart and excellent they are.

So we build these cars that are more and more sporty more and more tight and you're not going to take a car like this to the track ever so so why do it? Why does a mercedes sl have to be as tight as the sportiest of sports cars now built on the amg gt platform? It makes no sense, but this car is indeed a dinosaur underneath which i shall show you now at the car, wizards or i'll get in an accident. That was something hey glad the brakes work wizard well other than a little drama, almost doing a head-on with michael and alexis uh, not a lot of drama with this car uh. I don't give away too much, because this is a cars. You show the episode's coming out soon, but you did do some work to it.
It needs a window regulator now, but one of the reasons why these things appreciate and people say: oh - don't buy an aston. Martin is because of the maintenance. These things are maintenance pigs. They break a lot and is that that bad, no they're, not so bad? There's a lot of parts on these like the power steering pump the water pump.

There are four parts you can get off of the f-150. It bolts right on yeah. The tune-up is what's really expensive on these, because it's 12 very expensive coils plugs the intakes have to come off but other than that once every five years or so, there's not much else, they're not horrible to work on no, no well uh. Should we get this dinosaur up on the lift and show its true colors, because looking at it now, it looks like a very nice 2000s car but uh.

It looks very similar to uh very similar. It's underneath, where it's hilariously old, all right. Here we go so the db7 uh a bit of a compromise. They were just trying to put out a car as quickly as possible, so they use this old platform and you can see it immediately with the front suspension right.

We need springs. It looks like a truck it does. It looks like a s10 truck or something a ford ranger. Maybe i suppose yeah or jaguar - it's pretty dry under here.

Yes, well, we're not inspecting. We don't want to spoil that. So it's just a matter of looking over. Hopefully, it's dry because you did all that work, but just looking over at the old schoolness of this, i guess most automakers nowadays still have the engine and the transmission mated together, but most sports cars.

Nowadays, the transmission's mounted in the rear for weight distribution. If the engine's in the front - but i mean from the bottom, this looks like an old jag, i suppose, and the rear suspension is the way funny part yeah. It's definitely no exception. This is 1960s jag, stuff yeah, the twin shocks twin struts there, and then it's got the cv shaft with actual use.

Oh wow, look at that and then this transmission or i'm sorry, that's not a transmission. It's it's! The differential is just mounted in a cage here. Yep and look at these, what do you call this? This would be just a control arm. It's a lower control arm for the rear suspension, but it's it's.

It looks like it belongs in a truck it does and the way that the is the cv. Shafts are also 1950s rolls royce, or that way little bed loose, it's very, very old, but wizard. I actually like the feel of this car because of that - and it's so cool that you can buy a car from the mid 2000s. That still has this ancient technology, and it feels like an old school nice luxury experience as opposed to modern sports cars that just feel so tight.
You know tight in a bad way where it's just kind of uncomfortable driving around normally. So i think these cars are special. For that reason. People knock them, but i like it, this one has four nipples it.

It has four drain nipples as well. Now the db9. I don't understand why they're so cheap, because you really can't knock that so i'll go, get it i'll, be right back! Oh, yes, the nine, with its exotic semi, butterfly doors that pop up the door handle interior just gorgeous in the seats. Well, a lot more stiff and sporty, but still not too bad.

We also have a much cleaner. Looking push button starter still. The key goes in here, no crystal key yet, but it sounds exactly the same. It's the same engine, one really weird one really weird thing with the db9, though, is they put in this push button shifter? So i'm in drive now they've taken away the shifter down here they do make these with manual transmissions, but it's like they didn't know what to do with all this space here.

So they gave us a cubby which is fine door. Locks and trunk is fine, but then this well. They gave this thing a leather um thing um, you can put coins in it. I guess i don't know money who knows, or you just sit and play with it.

It's a very inappropriate thing to play with. In your aston martin uh, but they may be judging aston martin owners a little bit because it's only about well, not even an inch deep. So there you go now. I personally, like the dv9, the best of the mid-2000s astons, because it's bigger and more comfortable and you have a back seat which makes it a lot more practical.

You get the v12 standard, which is a great engine. The v8 vantages just don't feel as special. The problem is, though, and one of the reasons why they depreciate so fast, is it's pretty hard for the non-aston martin fan to tell the difference between advantage uh, this a db9 or a vanquish or anything more expensive, like a dbs, but even all those are pretty Cheap freddy had the dbs in cartrick a manual car, very, very rare, and he bought that for under 100 000, an incredible rare car, a literal bond car with a manual transmission and that's under a hundred grand now there's one car that i really think deserves to Be cheap too, that is the vanquish, the first generation with that horrible, automated manual transmission, that is basically the worst one on earth. We had that another car trick with ed bullion.

He bought that for like 38 000, we can find those like real ones. For you know 50s 60s. This one has a proper automatic slush box, which is you know totally fine, great power too, and despite being a 2005, it does feel very, very modern, but even the new generation of aston martins that look very futuristic are depreciating as well. I mean the new vantage with the amg v8 and they offer it with a manual transmission.
It's the only manual amg engine car you can buy in the world today new and those things depreciate. You wouldn't think they would considering the things that are appreciating over msrp gt, porsche cars and other things, but the aston martins they still depreciate and well. It makes no sense to me. Oh this is such a nice car for somebody wanting an exotic looking cruiser.

That's not that expensive and not that massively difficult to maintain this is it. These are great cars. Hopefully i haven't had the wizard look, this thing yet so, let's, let's do that right now, wizard! It's the same car you just had in here. No you like this one.

It's got a roof on it: okay, yeah! That's right! It's not a convertible! All right! It's a nine! Yes, wizard a very similar looking car, but very very different in so many ways other than well the engine's, basically the same yeah, but for under 40 grand 38 000. I mean look at it. It's beautiful, hopefully, there's not much wrong with it or anything. I don't think so.

Only 25 000 miles 25 000 miles. Yes wow. It is very beautiful. This car actually reminds me of your repeat.

I miss your repeat a lot that was a very nice car. It did have a little bit more weirder, electronics being newer that were kind of a pain that this one doesn't have, but right that was a great car. I do regret selling it, but that was more expensive than than this way more yeah, and this is a bondy looking coupe. It is underneath it should look nice, let's, let's hope, hopefully it's not time to die uh.

Oh, oh, the bond move. Yes, no time to die, yeah, clever, all right here! We go now keep in mind these cars. 2002. 2005.

Six! What we're three four years apart in generations, but uh underneath i can already tell you the big difference is going to be shields on the bottom shields. Yes, we have shields shields razor shields, actually metal on these, not plastic which is nice, but the suspension already looks so puny in comparison. Doesn't it yeah? No big springs, no giant control arms coming from a truck. This looks like a modern sports car, nothing loose there.

There's a little bit of a cracked, it's not separated fully yet so it's still fine! Okay, let's see what the brakes look like. They're about 30 remaining they're, still good we're getting close, huh yep, getting close all right same thing over here, nothing's loose, the struts are dry, so that's good, we'll take a peek up through this. These ventilation, slits slits speaking um inside the car, is an interesting, never mind. Moving on um you've got me interested now.

I never mind nothing. Nothing! I've covered it enough. I think in this video okay nothing's leaking over here, it's nice that you can see inside with these. Normally you have to take the panels off just to get a peek but yeah at the right angle.
You can see right down the barrel. Huh, radiators, nice and dry, both sides of the engine are nice and dry, wow, no transmission, where yeah where'd the transmission go. It is no more not here anyway, yeah. This is really quality.

I mean finally aston martin got to design and build their own car from the ground up. That was mass market, and it shows i mean just so nice. You know one interesting thing about these is they're using better technology. Future technology see the orange right there.

The orange color - that's bonding, that's glue, so it's glued together, yeah and you can see it behind you over here too. The body is glued together, bonded well and here's. I guess a transmission huh. Yes, i know u-joints for the rear, half shafts, actual cv.

Shafts. Take a look here: the pads are about 20 remaining they're still, okay, cv boots are not torn. Your ride. Height sensor is intact.

The struts are dry. This stretch dry, i haven't found a drip of anything anywhere. No, that cv boot and that cd boot is good. Strut's dry, actually, now that i look from this angle, it's not oh yep.

We do have some have a blown out strut there, okay! Well it's about time. You found something we're in the last corner of the car. Everything else is great, though yeah i see the tires getting a little low on tread here. So yeah tires brakes.

I guess some rear struts. Eventually, you did really good on this one, i'm impressed. Thank you, i'm sorry. It means you're not busy working on it but yeah.

It is a really nice car and aston martin's they're good cars. They are, it makes no sense. This is depreciated to less than say a new mid-level camry and that db7 is well cheaper than basically a new base. Camry right, it makes no sense, but that's where we live in, so i guess: buying aston martin eh, yes, thumbs up thumbs up on aston martin's thumbs up on the buy here.

Are they using Lucas wiring? If that's the case I heard Lucas no longer makes the replacement smoke.

  2. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars John Sim says:

Both cars were done by Ian Callum, the design genius, but the DB9 was finished off by Fisker, and same with the Vantage of that era too. The engineering of the original Vanquish was done by Lotus, but they went hugely over budget and delays so for the DB9 Dr Bez came up with the VH platform. The idea being that they could make cars sharing the same fundamental platform which could stretch in length, wheelbase, and width. Thereby allowing for the Rapide, DB9, DBS and Vantage to share expensive castings for the suspension mounts etc. That means you don't have the same problems you highlighted with the Z8 only recently as those parts are far far strong than it's suspension mounts. Yes, many parts from Ford but that gives two advantages, firstly they're inexpensive, secondly tested and developed to a higher standard than Aston could have so you get better reliability.

Just get a wiring diagram and a workshop manual and wrench on it yourself; preferably MY2013 or later.

The leather slot is designed to hold condoms because of all the pussy a DB9 gets you. Lambos and ferraris just scream arrogant asshole, DB9's quietly whisper "this guy fucks".

Is that bumper on the DB7 a completely different colour?
Side note I’d love to watch your new season of Car Issues but I cancelled my subscription when they banned most of their content from the Australian market!

I buy a new car it's a Camry all the way. But why buy a new one? A good used one should outlive me anyway. I want to watch Hoovie buy expensive money pits, not own one myself. πŸ˜„

That DB9 is a beautiful car. As far as the "slit"? I believe, and, I could be wrong that, that's where a shifter would have gone or maybe there was an option for an actual shift lever? Dunno? Maybe for an E brake?

Bought a 25k 2007 DB9 with the "sports pack" a couple years ago for $93k, could probably sell it for $110k now (in Australia). 2007 is the sweet spot just before the interior upgrade but late enough to have all the kinks worked out and all the options fitted as standard such as the metal knobs on the dash, heated seats, perforated leather etc. The sports pack added the upgraded 5 spoke wheels with titanium lug nuts, uprated springs and dampers and a solid aluminium underbody even more extensive than the one in Hoovie's for additional stiffness. I have a couple of blown dampers too though, the Multimatic ones had a design flaw where the seals leaked, I think from 2008 they replaced them with Bilstein's. They're a good $1500 each unfortunately.

They depreciate because the repairs are so expensive and often…..pretty much like BMWs…..
