Do you have the choir music playing in here? I'm gon na go home and look at all the other broken porches. I have welcome to hoovy's garage the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube, and not only am i the dumbest automotive youtuber, there is, but i'm also the dumbest porsche buyer. There is because i own five ish porsches and none of them are working as intended. Right now, and so i'm going to give you a tour of all these porsches today, starting here in arkansas at beaver lake here in leonard's 911 den, where he's going to be refreshing, not really restoring these two porsches, then we'll head back to kansas and we'll look Into the other porsches, none of them work.

This one really doesn't work. This one doesn't work as intended. The other cars have serious issues and maybe, by the end of this video one car will be working that i can drive home, maybe one but i'm an idiot. But before i show why i'm the dumbest porsche collector in the world.

No, you know, i don't think so.

You've i mean look at the cars that you've accumulated. Oh, yes, look at this beautiful 1979 911 sc uh. That was a target and now cabriolet that is in a thousand pieces. This is a beauty look at it, though it's i mean, look at the possibilities.

You get little duct tape, a little weather stripping, i think seat. I think this top frame is probably yeah yeah. Oh some paint on that it'll be good as new, so we were talking about making it a target again putting the hoop, obviously because targets, that's the one thing that makes me not a complete is prices on the targets, especially the sc's, have gone up so much That what i paid for this thing i know sixteen eighteen thousand dollars - was actually kind of a deal, even with the motor going way way deeper than we thought we'll go in your garage a little bit and see the motor. But i think that's where we're gon na go with this one is bringing it back into a target, but first you're gon na put the motor in and get it running and driving.
Hopefully the transmission's sitting where the driver would sit right now so yeah, that's a that's a great thing. This was a common conversion in the 80s for these cars, and you know a lot of this. I did. I did this conversion myself from targas back in the day uh, but people have realized the value of a target pulling the top off and cruising around and the values have gone up.

You know, i think, you've done it. You've done! Okay, you know you bought it. Cheap you've got to put some money in it, but you know you're going to come out all right on this car. It's going to be a nice car, so you think what do you think? Maybe three grand to get it back into a targa again, maybe a little more.

So i think three to five grand absolutely the big cause is gon na, be the target top right. We're gon na try to keep it at three. Okay, we're not trying to spend all your money, but yes is expensive. Well, the glass is cheap, but there's a lot of money that went in here that doesn't exist yet yeah, it's a car, that's originally gold.

Obviously, so somebody made it red. They put the whale tail on it. It's uh, it'll it'll stay like that. It's gon na have this kind of ratty look to it, but i want to make the interior fun so i'll definitely spend some money but it'll be a target again.

It'll look cool even though it's the biggest basket case of them all. This is the one that makes me look the least stupid, i think, just from what i paid for it and what i'm doing to it as opposed to everything else, where it's just kind of going well going downhill like like this one. Well, i mean you've got enough, the money you have in this car. You know people are going to have in their in their engine rebuild top end, so i think you've done okay, even if you stumbled into it.

This is the big money part here, that's missing, but it's going to be ready to go back in we'll, go see it, but this car is a 74 carrera. This is the original color. It is a real carrera that somebody well, you know rob from previous videos, but somebody for him uh, but somebody before him made it into a race car and then he decided to put in the turbo motor from a 76 930 turbo. This thing screams.
It is awesome, it is very fun, but it is a total uh mess here. Let me pop this open again and and that's why it's here with leonard, because i mean you see stuff like wiring here, it's terrifying, the way the car is kind of set up. I guess there's an oil cooler here in the front. You can see the lines just kind of hanging here, uh you're you're, looking at this one kind of closely - and i know you're a little put off by it - i'm a little put off by it.

This is a great car, though you know, people think that this is a 73 rs. It's the same car in in other countries. It was so people do frown on the 74, but basically this is still a great car sure it doesn't have the mechanical injection on this engine, but from the factory this was a wonderful car. You've upgraded the engine, i mean you've almost doubled the power of your.

I didn't do it. I just bought it that way, but we can do a lot of this royal wii stuff, where i say we're going to do this. It's your car now you're doing it, but uh yeah, the uh bumpers, need to go. I kind of want to make it look like a period 74 carrera, but still keep that crazy engine under the hood make the interior nice but then keep it kind of ratty show its character that it was a race car.

It was raced at goodwood. At one point, which is just so cool - and you already have a line on a guide to make this all fit into a duck - tail, not a whale tail to make it look stock, but the biggest expense is going to be. The transmission, which is uh super crunchy town yeah, the transmission, is, is done, we've given it a test, drive, runs good shifts and a few of the gears. Okay, but the yeah it's gon na have to have some help and we need that limited slip.

Transmission yeah yeah. So should we go in and see the engine on on old red there? Let's go check it out gold and then red, but this layers, it's flaky. So is this considered the the 911 den here? Yes, it is. This is uh.

These are all residents of the 911 den they're different species - oh yeah, but then a porsche guy has a little american muscle. I've seen this one before it is really cool same with the camaro i see this is this. Is the workshop eh? Yes, sir? This is the workshop. This is where uh they get worked on rather than stored.

Mostly - and this looks like my motor yeah - look at that. What do you think it doesn't look like how it was that thing sat outside for 20 years, not running the car actually started with the bad head, studs smoked up the place and then actually went forward backwards stopped. I was very surprised, but it was supposed to be maybe like a five thousand dollar. You know spruce up and unfortunately things things went quite sideways.

Well, we've upgraded a few things yeah. You know and uh it's gon na be nice. So when you're building something cool and a hot rod, nothing adds bling like a new set of carburetors. That is gorgeous, isn't it and i kind of like how you just cleaned it up but left it.
I mean still with the character of the car kind of ratty. So it's going to be a neat look. I think we do something fun with the interior, but yeah this engine with the carburetors. You have a few with these yeah, so i have pmos.

I have webbers, these are just fun. It's a hot rod. You know sure it's not going to start as great and run perfect when you started in the cold or hot, but who cares? This is a hot rod right right, that's! What's for fun! Well, it's been a year two years, i guess, has it been in two years? Surely i don't know, i think i bought it in a calendar year two years ago. So it's been quite a journey and i know i have both of these cars at the right place to sort them out, because the uh the showroom, if you will, is quite impressive, can we give them a little peek? Absolutely yes, sir: let's go painted target bar.

This is what this became an option. You know that's something for you to consider. If you want to do a uh, you know the black anodized from the factory. If you wanted to be brushed stainless, they usually gave you the complete black trim around the windshield and the targa bar.

If you were that option in 79, they were all stainless, though right, i think they were all stainless and you could get black yes here we go. Do you have the choir music playing in here? No sir, oh, this is uh. This is what my first porsche was a 67 911 and i bought this out of tulsa. This is an original 67 911, which is just a fun little car to drive two liter yeah.

Then we go wide body here yeah this is uh. This is the 84 930, which is got a 993 3.8 engine in it that we drove before yeah. This is a 79 930. It's a 3.4 roof turbo roof 5 speed all the roof goodies on this uh.

This car - this is a this is the this. Is the widowmaker like what you have and you used to work for roof a thousand years ago? I did work down in dallas for roof uh-huh. That was a great time had a great time there. This is a 77 uh, 911 911s targa, which you might want to look at it also has you can see the anodized bar from the factory which is cool.

I, like it yeah yeah. You know another option for you: tyler is they do sell a zip out rear window kit that replaces this. Oh, like a soft window like a soft window. So that's something to consider as well.

I kind of like the glass, though oh yeah, it's classic. I hear you so now that the cars are here. You can really compile a list and kind of like what the wizard does. Just virtually over the internet he's going to knock me out of my chair and uh.

Then we will proceed so this is a beautiful place, though just with the lakeview you get to work on porsches. It's it's a dream really! Thank you. Well, i guess i'll leave you to it leonard i'm gon na go home and look at all the other broken porsches. I have oh come on it's so stupid.
Well, i'm back in my garage and i'll eagerly await leonard's estimate uh, but i haven't been that horrible of a car collector, i guess with some decisions. A lot of these cars have gone way up in value, but it seems like porsche's for me, i'm just a complete idiot, my very first one i still have the 1999 porsche 911 that was ls. Swapped now has 250 000 miles on it. Unfortunately, that car is not running right.

It has like a small misfire and feels a little down on power. Hopefully not a dead cylinder and another dead ls engine that'll be its fourth motor. I don't think so, but it's not really working right. Now i haven't even registered it since i bought it back, so you know there it sits and the other porsche well, it's also not really a porsche.

It's this beck spider, which looks like a james dean era, porsche spider, but it's powered by a subaru, 2.5 liter. Four cylinder all fiberglass body absolutely gorgeous, but if you look here, i have only put the batteries dead. Of course, i guess the charger didn't work because the battery's so dead, but i've only put like 200 miles on this car, because ever since it was put together, it's had something really really wrong with it. That's really not the wizard's fault.

I thought i could just enjoy the car as is, and maybe during the winter time get it fixed, but we're in spring now and i still haven't fixed this car. So it needs to go up to the wizards and start to get fixed today, we'll go there and he's saying one porsche that was broken may be fixed. So i have maybe one good porsche decision, but first we'll get this back spider running and then hit the road i'll explain what is wrong with it on the way to the car wizards. So it was a nearly two year.

Wait for me to get this thing in. It is absolutely gorgeous, but it's not right. The biggest letdown has been this volkswagen transmission, which is pretty loose and sloppy, which is you know, volkswagen things, but the problem comes when you downshift put it in second it pops out and then, when you put it in fourth well, it makes another most annoying sound. In the world, like the diablo, just a horrible wine there, it is so imagine you've just gotten a car together.

You spent a lot of money on you've waited years for, and you know it makes that noise. Of course you you think. Well, i don't want to take it all apart and i just got it all together, so i thought i could enjoy it and drive it, but this noise meant i never drove it. Now that we have electricity, it's showing 167 miles in one year.

We need to fix it and give this car another shot. It's so pretty it's just a total assault on the senses. It's like driving a dentist drill, but uh anyway, the wizard would be able to fix it or at least send it. Someone that can oh he's ready.

I've been waiting, wizard get in my wallet. Oh all, right, that is a nice wallet, yeah coach, nice, coach, wallet. Wow! Aren't you fancy all right? Well, what's the pound of flesh? For today there you go porsche 928, the window that was an expensive fix. That was my rattle in the door, which was pretty annoying yeah, so the some of the guys were really worn out and then the car would stall intermittently and then i couldn't restart it, because the battery had blown up, which was expensive well, 125 to test the Battery we didn't test the battery.
Only we went through and checked fuses we'd put the amp meter on it check for draw. Oh that cost money, okay, cv axle. Hopefully that goes better than the ml63. Yes, i think it went okay and uh.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, and then there was that ac leak from one of the lines, so that was that was something okay, twelve hundred and thirty dollars. That's that's, definitely doable uh. You got the keys. Uh pay me first he's not slipping.

I hate to take away from your favorite activity, but uh you do recall. The back which is up here has that noise from the transmission - that's just been there all the time, and so i guess i need to find somebody to rebuild it again again. The proper way so yeah once i do that, i guess you can yank it and send it out. Then maybe i can enjoy i'm only 170 miles on that car in a year.

That's sad, isn't it really sad transmission arrived broke and it hadn't even been installed? Yet yep so between the moans and the dentist, drills and everything else, a lot of undrivable cars, but the porsche, maybe one good car, only 1200 worth of stuff wrong with it paid i'm free all right. I go from this beautiful. Looking dentist drill to the uh lap of luxury for porsche circa 1988. - oh yeah! Well, thank you, wizard, no problem! Thank you.

This is so nice. It smells ac. It has ac. The seeds are so comfortable.

Ah there we go all right. Bye see you later well, it starts the rattle in the door is gone and she's running good. So i do have one working porsche and it is a very, very nice one. This thing reminds me a lot of my ferrari 456, that comfy four seat gt cruiser thing, and this is obviously a much much cheaper car to buy than that ferrari.

Oh yeah, so maybe i'm not a complete idiot, although in my porsche collecting i did sell some cars that i shouldn't have like my 996 turbo i bought from mid-30s spent. You know five, seven grand fixing. It then sold it for mid 30s and then there's the 86 3.2 carrera. That was a very nice car bought for mid 30s fixed it a couple grand there and sold it for mid 30s.

Those cars are worth way more than that now so anyway, kick it myself, but i think i'll stay the course i mean it wouldn't be hooby's garage if i wasn't hemorrhaging money on cars. Thank you so much for watching check out policy genius link below also the 911 dan leonard who we visited earlier. He has a youtube channel. A fresh video just out it'll, be linked in the comments.
Do give it a watch.

I had the same issues with my VW. I went with a Rancho Performance Transaxle. Get the freeway flyer and tell them what you are putting behind it. They can build a transaxle to cope with the torque. I even had them install a Quaife limited slip.

I bought my first car at 19 with money I had earned dishwashing, a 1978 911sc Targa. Ended up totalling it when I snap oversteered it during heavy rain into a giant curb… Still hurts my soul to this day 9 years later. Have some PTSD from that day.

That’s just too close to bad shades of brown for my taste, but hey, I only got an β€˜06 Camry, lol πŸ˜‚ (86,000 miles though !) my stepmom owned it from new so it’s a family heirloom ! Just put $1,600 into it with new tires πŸ›ž, brakes, battery, full service. Drives like πŸ‘ new, great highway πŸ›£ gas ⛽️ mileage !

Wizard isn't greedy, he's just an excellent mechanic that has a great big whale wash into his shop every week. How can you not dance happily when a giant dollar sign walks in and sheds?

Sad to hear Apollo's feeling under the weather. As you said, hopefully, it's not the engine. That said, if that orange Porsche was mine, I'd keep it looking the way it is. I got to say, I love those whaletails.

  6. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Andres Guerin says:

Never understood why you could buy or rebuild an american v8 for $5k yet even a basic 356 engine cost over $10k easy! An a flat six way more!! Porsche name is a huge premium I guess!

I've been a Porsche fan most of my life. My boss used to let me drive his old school boxsters a couple of times. 97 and 2001. Both convertibles. Showed off to all my friends. Lied. It's mine. How you like me now.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜†πŸ˜πŸ˜…πŸ€‘πŸ˜Ž

    AS I PREDICTED….

Tyler's 928, the car that the majority of Porschephiles actively hate, will turn out to be the best Porsche he owns, if not the best of all his cars.

I have porches and none of them work. What's that day about porche. No one ever says I have 5 Hondas that don't work lmao

So dude has all these classic Porches, sweet house in the Ozarks, and we aren't even mentioning the 70 series Land Cruiser in the background. Dude's living the good life.

I don't consider you a Porsche collector no different than I don't consider the junk yard/auto salvage yard down the road from me a Porsche collector and they have 8 currently sitting in the yard and if I had to classify one of you a collector I would consider them to be more of a collection cuz 3 of them run still without the help of general motors or subaru lol. Hoovie you might be a rere but you're our rere!!!

You should do a colab with Dennis Collins about Porsches (and Jeeps ofc)! The man is a LEGEND. Keep the premium content coming buddy! πŸ‘Œ

it does make me wonder how often Hoovie spends thousands with the wizard only to come back with the same issue or a new issue after the repair on the same car.

928's were so under appreciated when they came out. Apples and oranges compared to a 911. 928's are finally starting to get their due and clean lower mileage models are appreciating πŸ‘
