I really didn't know what to expect for this car. I thought it'd be something that drove like an old car and felt like an old car that i really would love to look at, but not drive all that much. I've owned several cars like that, but this one, this one's special - it really really is. Oh, this corvette from the 60s handles accelerates stops like a car.

That is much much newer. So was it all worth it? I think you can tell from the grin on my face what i think yeah, absolutely yes, but it was a lot a lot of money, welcome to hoovy's garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and big updates here at the car wizard, i've been gone For a while shooting the next car track car track five, which will be dream cars uh, but now that i'm back, i can actually take my choice on hoopties that i want to pick up but uh. I think it's going to be this before we get into the corvette and driving at home, hopefully not blowing up again, like the last one with the old engine uh i'm here with the wizard we'll do a tour of all the hoopties one big surprise: wizard is The mybach is back, it is back, but it is uh not finished. No, so this was my co-part copart mybach that was erect quite badly on the rear quarter and, as you can see, it is fixed.

It's back. The two-tone looks fantastic with the bordeaux red metallic. I'm going to have to take it back to mako, though, for a little weirdness here with this seal. I'm not sure about that.

There's also a little primer that needs to be cleaned up here down low, but they said they would fix it, but there are some other issues that need to be sorted out as well. With a car that's been wrecked, the car is actually powering off now. So the electrical system is working, i'm not sure what happened there, it just self-healed, but some things are not working like the radio was one it was working and it came back from the paint job. Now it no longer it boots up.

It tries to do its thing and just shuts off yes, my suspicion is somewhere around this seat area, which was all out when the car was being worked on. They put it all back together. Maybe something got unplugged under the seat or around here, but uh at least there's no wolverine scar on this thing anymore, the trunk's another thing that needs some work. It thinks it's open, so we've got to make sure it uh thinks it's closed and just a few other little odds and ends, but uh the hooptie weibock lives.

I know you all have been asking like i've just forgotten about it, but it just took a long time of the paint job, but it's here it lives and it's sitting up right. Yeah. It stays up now. Yes, new struts drive straps very, very expensive struts for a hooptie my buck, but uh good progress there.

Some other progress. The last video the countage was having quite a quite a bad time, and the wizard has wrapped it in a car condom and sent some stuff off. Yes, yep. We sent off the coil the distributor and also the ignition computer to permatune and they're, going to upgrade the ignition module check the coil and check to make sure on the distributor that the advance is all working like it should.
I guess it's a really common problem with these uh, the magnetic morelli ignition system, uh, also other things uh, but you found some wiring that was chewed as well. Yeah it had some rodent damage, it was chewed some bad grounds. We got your wiper, your horn, your blower, all working again. Oh that's good because we didn't know if the blower motor was gon na be a dash out for that.

So that's working yep. So once the ignition parts are back, then there's the air conditioning to figure out and it's more or less ready for that countage rally that i was saying this car was going to do and it's been so flawless right as it just really crapped itself on me. So that's good uh, nothing happening there. No nothing happening with a mystery car under the tarp there that i haven't unveiled yet.

The wagon here was home and now it's back uh 1984 grand wagoneer after uh over a year waiting for a repaint there's been some issues that popped up. The carburetor probably needs to be replaced is that where we're going yeah and the fuel gauge wasn't working is that figured out yeah the sending unit in the tank is bad. It really never ends with these aging chrysler products, but uh getting close there. I see the car trek 308 is still in pieces, but coming back together, it's going back together.

It's making progress, but one car that is ready for me is the corvette. My 66 chevrolet corvette 427 coupe, the motor that was in it wasn't original it. Uh died. A horrible painful, agonizing death after i overheated a couple times, was not healthy.

This new one is a correct, 427 390 horse and it is beautiful, absolutely gorgeous and running. Well, yes, it runs very well. We got the timing set correctly, the carburetor adjusted correctly and we fixed a little squirt. There was just a line loose over there on the clutch master cylinder and it's happy so the day has finally come where i think i'll be able to drive this thing home without incident.

We've tried twice so far, maybe today's the day, so i guess i'll i'll hit the road yeah. That's good. At first there's a bill, though there's always a bill one day. I will sneak past him without paying i i try every single time dip right in.

Oh, this is me here that is you, let's see how you did here, 1200 to swap the engine grand total one thousand nine hundred seventy two dollars and uh. I paid a lot for the engine - uh, okay! Well, hopefully, it's worth it. I really haven't been able to drive it more than five ten miles before it blows up. So hopefully it's worth it we'll drive it home i'll, give my impressions and add up the cost, which is it's going to be a lot? Well, it's been a few days since i picked this car up.

I wanted to wait and collect my thoughts, so i could really do this car justice because it is a very confusing car because it looks like an old car or at least an old car, that people from the 60s thought the future was going to look like And it really does sound like an old car too. This 427 certainly has a fantastic vintage burble to it. Just listen to this. Oh, this corvette from the 60s handles accelerates stops like a car.
That is much much newer and i imagine if it had the original four-speed transmission in it, it would feel a lot more vintage, but with this five-speed and the way it feels it just completely transforms the car. Let's throw her on the highway here. I can't drive it too hard because i have to break in the engine, but oh this thing is so good. It is so good.

Now this car doesn't have air conditioning, which is something that kind of hates it makes it feel like an old car. But a lot of these old cars are designed to be driven with the windows down, so you don't have the bucketing noise. It's really not all that annoying. It's the same with my 66 mustang.

It's actually quieter the windows down than the windows up. One thing, though, as i get on the highway, the uh the tires definitely old, definitely out around need to be replaced, because it's something that kind of spoils this otherwise very pleasant driving experience and this extra gear having a high speed instead of a four-speed means. I'm going 70 down the highway at 2000 rpm, it's pretty impressive. This thing still doesn't seem like it's getting very good gas mileage because i've driven it maybe 50 miles, maybe 70 miles and we're almost half a tank, 15 gallons.

So definitely not winning any fuel economy. Points here who cares all right getting off the highway, so you can hear me better, very easy to break the tires loose on this car. Oh and i love that it's an original survivor, even though the engine's not original the paint everything else very, very original car. So i can actually drive this thing.

Enjoy it not worry about losing ncrs top flight points. If i park it at the grocery store and it gets another ding or scratch will just add to the patina, it just adds to what makes this car special. So many get restored, it seems like there's less that have survived that are original like this, and it just makes it even more special to me when i go to a car show, i'm usually looking at the original survivors a lot longer than i am the perfectly Restored ones and it's a growing trend. Thankfully i really didn't know what to expect for this car.

I bought this thing for fifty thousand dollars. Fifty thousand dollars for this well appreciating classic uh, but i didn't expect to have to put a new engine in it that cost eight thousand dollars for the fresh rebuilt, very correct, looking engine under the hood, another two thousand dollars or three at the wizard, which brings The grand total to a little over sixty thousand dollars into this beautiful original nassau blue 427 corvette. If you look at the values, i think i'm in this thing pretty well, i could imagine i could sell it for a small profit, but the driving experience of this car is so good and it is so beautiful and what it represents. Historically, it's just a perfect trifecta of good things in this car, so i think i'm going to keep cleaning it up and let it stick around for a while there's still a few things that don't work inside the car, like the radio, the blower motor.

A few other little things that don't matter, but i think i'm going to enjoy this car for a while. It's going to stay down here not go up to the car, wizards and i'll just enjoy it until something breaks. I suppose thank you for watching. Well, i said i was going to wait until something breaks and uh well, something broke immediately, looks like the brake.

Caliper has exploded and is shooting brake fluid everywhere, so well back up to the wizard. It goes for another pound of flesh, lovely you.

    I built a 390hp 427 Rat for my 66 Chevelle 2 dr sedan. Haven't driven much because of the brakes and front suspension are shot. These engines are very strong and fun to drive. Maybe I'll find time soon to rebuild the suspension and brakes. I have the parts but work demands have kept me from working on it.

    I think you need to find another mechanic. What kind of (so called) mechanic has to send parts to another mechanic to be repaired??? What kind of (so called) mechanic doesn't check the brake calipers before he lets (apparently) one of his best customers drive off in a car that could KILL him without proper brakes??? There are no mechanics left in the world, all we are left with are parts changers… Gone are the days when a MECHANIC could actually FIX something…

    Is he sponsored by Maaco? Maybe they’re super high end now, but that generation Maybach had a vastly more complicated paint/clear system than the same generation Mercedes S Class. As far as I know from paint/body men, repairing a small scratch in one requires a real artist with a lot of time. It’s not a Toyota paint job

    The car is 50+ years old, with 4 piston caliper's. They will need sleeves. I have a 1969 Mustang from AZ, the bushing are beat-out on the original, upper control arms. The car likes to go left or right, at speed. Both are typical wearing parts.

    The red doesn't work on the Maybach at all, it looks awful. Have Maaco do a dark blue or something like that please. Also the wheels look way too silvery, they don't match the car at all. Have them painted in a darker, non-shiny grey color…

    I love that Corvette every cent is worth it to put in a Corvette it’s just I was raised with Camaros I’m 69 through 92 Corvettes I had an accident I had to have a rod put my leg after that I could never get the car back to get over that door piece would tear my leg so I kept Mauser easy to get out so I like to get a Camaro and looking forward to going up so high I can’t work I’m sorry cuteRich like you
