The radiator sound. Why is the radiator out in order to get to the front? Do the front main seal and everything. and either front main seal? Yeah. Pouring oil out? Okay, keep going down.
Whoa. This thing looks so awesome. Welcome to Who's Garage! The dumbest Automotive channel in all of YouTube and I have double the V12 trouble right here. 24 cylinders of Mercedes V12 Goodness Uh, the maintenance and repairs certainly are feeling double right now.
Uh, behind me is the 1996 Mercedes S600. The OG of Mercedes V12 is right there needing a lot of work and unfortunately the car wizard has told me that he's found more and more and and more things wrong as he's dug into it. and then recently back is my 2004 My Box 62 with the partition. I Feel like this car is the worthy successor to the 140s class.
just way over built, way over engineered. of course the S-Class that continued after that was built to a price but not these because it was 450 000 new. But we do have that warning code for the SBC brake pump which this car has two of them and well it's a Break by wire system that Mercedes abandoned because it was too finicky and well it's throwing a code unfortunately so we'll see which one's the bigger gotcha. Will it be the My Box 62 or the more things that the wizard has found? Because wow, this thing is really torn down.
Uh, Wizard's actually already diving into this thing so let's go take a look Wizard, You are wasting no time here between you and Magic Mike and the two V12s. No, the bills are racking up I'm really liking that I suppose. So, uh, you've plugged in your handy dandy scan tool not the old school one like we used on the S-Class but uh, looks like it's reading the code. Oh oh, pressure Reservoir is faulty under voltage.
There's two brake systems or two SPC brake systems on this? Yeah, I'm gonna show it. actually. yeah. so that's very unique to the Mybach.
Not even my SLR McLaren has two of them. But because this thing has two calipers on every wheel, they decided they decided to stop this. Beast They needed two pumps. This is the electronic brake by wire system.
One on this side, one on this side and one of them has bad pressure. a Pressure Reservoir But it says the left side, the right side. Actually, both of them say under voltage, but only the left side says pressure Reservoir Faulty and wouldn't you know it? these are more or less perfectly even where they hang. Wizards Those ones are even.
that's not natural. it is not. Anyway, so my left one a pressure reservoirs and something like that. or huh.
Oh, there's a ball down there. Yep, yeah, there's the left ball in the right ball over there. Okay, so Magic Mike Are you listening because you've done a few more of these than Wizard I Imagine, right? because Michael Worked the Mercedes dealer for a very long time. So what does that sound like to you? That sounds like a pressure? Reservoir It could be a chance that we just need to Bleed It Uh, clear fault codes and then bleed the system. There's a small chance that could take care of it, but more than likely the reservoir will need to be replaced. It shouldn't be too bad. uh I'd say check. it might be covered under your warranty.
Still yeah I know they extended the warranty, but I think it's 15 years 2004 so 15 years that would have been 19 when I lost my SBC warranty I would definitely ask them I suppose Okay, I'll give it a shot. but uh, you're very very so. what's going on? Oh, you're getting a ball out, huh? Actually, this is the new one. it's going in so I've got very nice one accumulator already replaced.
this is the other one. All right. And then your exhaust. My Lawrence or exhaust put a Lorenzer exhaust on it and it rested so badly it snapped when I went to.
uh, replace these accumulators. so I'll have to fix that. Oh, you can see the end of it over here. Oh I see Ah well, you know it did come from a really dry, non-rusty State I think it was New Jersey or something like that.
Yeah, yeah, so I'm sorry, but apparently uh, you're very happy with this car aren't you Wizard? I think it's really cool, but I think that Magic Mike is not very happy with it right now I was saying happy in the sense that there's more issues and you're making more money, right? Well, that's true. Yeah, so uh, can we lower the car? Actually can? I See what's going on here because obviously there is a lot off of it right now. There's four cards full apart. Holy moly.
So there's there's the old accumulator balls, which these things would take the extra pressure or the extra fluid when the suspension compresses and uh, when they break, then it just fills up and you have no shock absorption. So that's what hopefully we were feeling there on our test drive. And then the radiators out. Why is the radiator out? In order to get to the front, do the front main seal and either front main seal.
Yeah, okay. keep going down. Whoa. this thing looks so awesome.
Uh, but am I seeing something new here? Was this replaced right before I got it? Yeah, yeah. so you guys did it. Yeah, so it needed a water pump that wasn't on your lip. It's not supposed to jiggle that much is it? So that was shot That was shot.
Okay, what else? The fan clutch is shot. The fan blade had a broken fan blade on it. This over here the fan itself had a broken fan blade. This is the replacement.
This is the oh no. This is the one that came out of your car. You can see. Oh ouch Okay, those are made out of aluminum so they're metal.
How much are those? That was a used one was 350 bucks. Okay. and then a water pump. Water pump.
That's what we're using. My clutch. So the fan clutch. No.
The fan clutch is bad from all that wobbling it did from the bad water pump. Okay, it just really wasn't happy with it. Wonderful. All right. Well, anything else. The valve cover, gaskets, and plenum gaskets. Yeah, some stuff we already talked about that was already on the list. Motor Mounts I Suppose mounts transmission mount.
But look at this incredible engine right here. This is what you see in your nightmares. Michael This is. this is pretty much my nightmare come to life.
I'm sorry. it looks really cool though. I'm glad it looks great. It's not fun to work on that little pipe down.
You see that rubber hose? Oh yeah, that was disintegrated. There was nothing down, it was just crumbled. Is that coolant going through there? It's just a PCV Oh okay. well that would make it run bad.
Like a vacuum like or whatever. which we were noticing. A little bit of an uneven Idol Yep. So huh.
All right. and then you're uh. you had an ABS or what was it? The what light was coming on? ESP Yeah, like coming on? Well I Thought it was just that. the steering angle sensor needed to be recalibrated.
Uh I Found quite a few mice nests and I've got an open circuit fault code for a position sensor. so I need to find that you have to chase wires. There was a mouse and mice that's all in there. I Had two in here and then one in the back of the V down here that got eaten.
Huh? Just piling up as we dig in more things are found. So how much over are we on this initial? What was it? Four grand or 4500? Do you think we're going to get to six easily? Maybe even seven? All right. So we're we're two grand over. at least on this we've got.
Well, you said I might get lucky, but probably not. So with labor. probably fifteen hundred, fifteen hundred dollars if it's not under warranty for that. Reservoir because I believe it's separate from the pump on that car.
Yeah, so you might get lucky there, but this one definitely adds up. quick. Wonderful. well.
and there's more crap that's broken the Maserati Levante actually is stuck at the airport in a parking garage and won't start. It won't start. so I have to figure that out. Now they are.
but uh I appreciate the hard work. sorry every time I get one of these cars sorted out and then I sell it and then I bring something new for you to get all mad about something that's been parked in a field for four years. Wizard's always very happy with the bills. Uh, but uh yeah I know you're doing a lot of the grunt work so my apologies.
All right. I'll check on the warranty for that, but I got a feeling I'm well, before we go see if I can revive the Maserati I'm just insanely curious if this car is still under warranty. And to get a little background: Mercedes came out with this SBC braking system that you saw under the there in 2003 with the E-class and well, it had issues. Basically it's a Break by wire system so there's a computer sensing your brake inputs and it's telling the brake booster to apply the brakes. Now the engineers at Mercedes Well, they weren't really sure how many presses a brake pedal the whole system the pumps should have since you're not doing the pushing yourself. Normally the brake booster helps you push the brakes, but this one is doing all of it. So they put an arbitrary number thinking well, that's probably enough. Once it hits that number then it's past it and you should replace it.
But they way miscalculated. So cars in three five years old they were saying they need their pumps replaced when they really didn't but under factory warranty they were replacing these pumps left and right. Then they came up with a fix to extend the number of depressions into Infinity So it was an arbitrary number. It's when the pump fails, it fails, and there's some backups to where you're not completely losing brake power.
So that was okay, but people were certainly up in arms about it. The Mercedes SL had it as well. So they extended the warranty on these things well. I don't know how long 15 years some say Michael said maybe 25 years.
So we are going to find out now. Mercedes Abandoned this braking system in 2007 with two exceptions and that is the Myvoc 62 and the Mercedes SLR McLaren which I have both and they both have this braking system. But if they're still under warranty, that means I have 20 year old cars that are still under factory warranty. So we're going to find out right now at the Mercedes dealer if I'm lucky, I'll check in with a Mercedes dealer before I go my next Quest and it is warranted for 25 years.
They will replace the entire SBC pump to the tune of well, three or four grand under warranty. 20 year old buy box 62 with 105 000 miles is warrantied on the brakes until 2028. it's ridiculous. Uh I do have to wait a while though.
uh March 20th. so six weeks before they can get to it. But uh okay, I'd be upset I mean I can still drive the car. it's just a white warning out the tire pull over.
you're about to have a bad thing morning. So good news. but maybe some more good news. Let's continue to the Maserati I'll need a ride though.
Such happy news And the next topic of discussion I Was hoping you're gonna drive your Prius because we were going to talk proximity keys but oh this baseball is cool. Yeah, the Spaceball is cool. So there's 100 years where the keys right there. Basically this was the last cool version.
the Switchblade key I suppose. but uh yeah, here's what my Maserati Levante has which is an X horse key made by a Chicago key Express when this thing was repoed. Hmm. now I found some more history on the Maserati It was owned by a minister originally he died and then that's when some things went downhill for you.
Yeah, people started driving. yeah uh, unfortunately 60 000 miles without oil change. and anyway uh I came back from my trip and the key wasn't working. the Maserati wouldn't start. So this is the world we live in now with proximity keys. This happened to the Bentley where that just randomly dies. Yeah and this one I guess Maserati has some trick though, but because it's the aftermarket. I do have a proximity key on me, but yeah, you're supposed to be able to with the factory key which by the way, the guts of this one since it's Chrysler should be about the same exactly you're supposed to be able to.
even if it's dead, hold it up to the start button and it kind of Nfcs with no power and it should start. but I'm guessing the next horse the the X-Force does not have that feature. but I mean Mercedes was one of the first to do it and they would have a backup with the Uh slot. Obviously even the SLS AMG they have a hidden slot to start it up.
uh but with those it's the same. Same with the Prius where that was one of the first to have. It has a little proximity key but then it had like a coin slot right there. So and the a source doesn't do the thing, it doesn't do them, it doesn't Well, there's no key in there.
there's oh there you go. there's nothing. So I'm hoping it was just a battery. I was out there and Stranded Uber at home.
Hopefully it's a battery because if it's not, it's at the top level of a three-story parking garage. Oh goodness with uh, no way for a tow truck to get it out. Uh, three ramp loopty Loops down so you couldn't really like because it won't steer. Yeah, you need you need a crane or something? Ooh well, you know, as much as I don't want that for you, it would be interesting to watch.
Fingers crossed, All right. Spaceball Just engaged? All right? Well, best of luck to you? Yeah, Yeah, all right. I Need a ride? Don't leave yet? All right. I Can hear the Heat foreign Chrysler engineering here? Yes, okay, that's good hoopties man.
Well it sure is nice when things work out, huh? I mean I was losing my mind over that Maserati thinking the aftermarket key was dead and all this stuff and it was the simplest solution. eight battery probably got pushed in my backpack and went dead. so very lucky in that sense. and then the warranty.
Who would have thought my my box 62 is still under warranty and saving me a boatload of money which I'll need for the 96 s 600. So anyway, all the savings there of the bad things that happened are going into that car. so it's not all good, but obviously it'll be a beautiful product in the end with the S600 And well, the car wizard is very excited about the next project which we'll see in my next video. Thank you so much for watching.
German Rubbish!!!!!!!!!! 😡😠😠😡
A little known fact. The 1985 MB 300SD TurboDiesel has a LIFETIME warrranty on the Trap-Oxidiser. Mercedes could not keep it from clogging, frequently!
Dude, come buy a low mileage 2004 Yukon Denali from me, rust free from Tennessee, perfect leather, alpine and Bose system.
Dash replaced etc. Tuxedo black.
The bad: clear coat failing. And no 3rd or 4th gears in trans.
170k on mileage and want 4500.00$
Good fix n flipper
WOW, love to see Hoovie, spend $$$, I can't do that
I had to laugh when the Wizard said the bills were raking up 💵💵💵
Not much tread on one of the tires on the S600.
That is an awesome engine in the Maybach, are the mouse nests an optional extra 🤔😆
You must be the wizard's biggest benefactor.
😊😊😊I have an Infiniti FX37 . I replaced the batteries in the remotes with cheap batteries from EBay… The proximity remotes would work only sometimes. My wife an daughter got stuck in a parking lot cause the cheap remote battery died. The car would start and then shut right off.. The proximity remote sends a signal to the fuel pump.. So I got some Fresh batteries and PRESTO.. No worries since . I had a light on the dash come one during the attempted starts. I unhooked the car battery to remove light.. ALL GOOD .. so far.
It's understandable on Mercedes' part, I've had my number of depressions extended to infinity, too.
Hoovie and Wizard love talking balls
"Hoopties, man." Should be a T shirt.
Oh, FINALLY you got a decent car on your channel – a Volvo V70
Isn’t it pronounced May back not My back???
Had my 03 e46 compact airbag replaced free of charge at dealership to that whole airbag shrapnel thing couple of years ago
Tyler have you changed the mikes and stuff on this video cos the sound was not good, especially on the clips in The wizard's workshop. Maybe it's just me 🧐
