I DARE YOU to find better rebuilt exotic than we did on AutoTempest!►http://bit.ly/CarTrek901
Thanks to AutoTempest.com for sponsoring Car Trek! https://youtu.be/1nF2Uo2eVDA

Laughs! Holy moly it just did a rock return. They did a really good rock return. That's how I'm getting out of every parking situation now. but before we get into why I was doing my My Box 62 and why it was so easy to fix the my buck but still pretty expensive. I've gathered three car track veterans behind me here to announce the latest car trick is live on Tavares's channel where we bought three wrecked Exotics for the price of a Corvette Z06 For me it was a salvage title 458 that you've seen on the channel. Quite a bit a huge mess so be sure to check that out at the end of this video and be sure to thank. Auto Tempest Check them out as well because they are sponsoring Car Trek and this video. the Auto Tempest is the best way to search for a used car because it combines all the major listing sites into one search. So if you search for a Mybox 62 you get several results. Even though it is a very hard car to find, there's even one on there that is a rare convertible version for two million dollars. That is the asking price Almost two million dollars. But if you're not searching for a Maybach you just want to price check just about anything. Auto Tempest is the way to go because not only does it combine all the major listing sites, it also lets you specialize just like if you were searching on one of those sites for mileage, color, engine, anything you want. So if you're shopping for a hard to find used car like a Ferrari 456, an Aston Martin Vanquish or a Mercedes SLS cast a very very wide net using Auto Tempest or just use it every day for fun to search for cars because that's what I do and I end up buying things. But uh, actually, let's head up to the Car Wizard Now where I'm picking up the My Box 62. welcome to Hoovie's Garage! The dumbest Automotive channel in all of YouTube And this is my 2004 Mercedes My Box 62 with the long wheelbase, the partition, the fancy roof originally the MSRP over 500 000 but I bought it at auction with over a hundred thousand miles on it for only 40 Grand or forty four thousand dollars with fees. And it did have some problems. but apparently I got very, very lucky when it came to the issues of the noisy engine and a few broken items inside The Car Wizard has sorted this car entirely and has a still ready for me. So this car is actually ready for active duty for daily driving and I am so excited to use a My Box 62 every day. But as usual with the Car Wizard, there is a bill to pay so well. let's see what the Wizard did and how much it's going to be. Oh this beautiful Sumptuous Maybach And there's the beautiful Sumptuous Wizard. Yeah, yeah, so I got really lucky, huh you did. But this is definitely an ominous warning for you here. I'm holding a pair here. Okay, and I add this here. Yes, that's a grand. Those three little things are a thousand dollars worth of. Parts because they're my back. Parts These little pulleys are around 250 300 a piece. This was a couple hundred two fifty. There you go. Ah well, that's good news. And uh. well, that's scary. So these are just little idler pulleys, right? You can see here. these aren't just your standard pulleys. These aren't on any other model. You can see how wide they are. Yeah, how many ribs belt that is? Look at the belt. Well, it is a big giant belt. but that is a nice pretty new looking idler. Two of them. Yeah. and thank goodness it's not the seven thousand dollar alternator. obviously. Yeah, Seven thousand dollars alternator? Two or three hundred dollar little tiny pulleys. Uh-huh. And here's your sensor we replace right here. So this was the Uh G4 sensor Acceleration: Okay, yeah, all right, which is right on the shock. So there's there one. Yeah, there's one over here. Yep. so that had failed. it wasn't working. It looks like it was the easiest thing to replace ever. Huh? Yeah, it was very easy to replace. So how much was that? Around 250 250? Which that's not a my box part, Is it? That's just Mercedes Being Yeah, it's just a Mercedes part. Okay, we're gonna go to a D. We went to the dealer. That's probably why these prices are a little high, right? I Wanted to get the correct parts for this car so I obviously dodged the bullets, but you're telling me, get ready, Huh? Get Ready! Well, these things are so well built that maybe I'll have some reliability for a little bit. It is over a hundred thousand miles though on this. V12 But Uh does look very tidy. otherwise you serviced it too. Yeah, we did an oil change on it. It looks. it actually looks very good underneath. All right. Well, I am volunteering to go pay the bill. You don't have to chase me down I'm not going to try and leave. Let's just let's just go do it and then I'll be on my way in. This amazing thing sounds good to me. I Won't uh, won't argue with that. You don't want to jump in front of a Maybach Anyway, yeah, it hurts. It would roll me over pretty bad. Okay So well, there's more on here. I Guess there were other things. so there's the oil change, accelerator sensor, idler, pulley. Oh yes, my daughter broke the door. That's right. So Hardware that was 125 dollars and then my scroll wheel has another thing she broke I Forgot to mention last video The Scroll wheel on the remote for the TV She somehow broke it to where I couldn't work it from the back with a remote so that was fixable, Huh? Yes, we were able to fix it 75 Okay freight charge of 11.50 because we're ordering for Freight for the dealership I see and shop supplies Grand Total: 1 675 dollars. so first little pound of Flesh there but could have been much much worse. Well that's warranty. but yeah I get what you're saying? Yeah, a little bit of a scary ownership Prospect with that car. but I mean look at it how he's been sitting in the back of that thing taking a nap two or three. Yep, I figured there's some paperwork done. so I actually said in the thing and got the paperwork done in there. Yeah, I would do exactly the same well. I have done I'm going to do it some more. It's amazing in there. Let's get you paid before. I Go I need to see what Michael's doing on the Jag Huh? Yeah, it's coming along nicely. Engines back in Yes the drivetrain is back in and it is. It is right there. It's so funny with the center console off that the transmission that here's picture ping somewhere else I don't know why. yeah it definitely looks happy to see you should I not be doing that I guess I should have asked before I started playing with things huh? it's your s so you were in the air when I came in so I was drive shaft was going back on. Yep so I had it up in there to do the rear drive shaft bolts the front drive shaft bolt so you can actually look down and see them right there next to you. That's how I get access to those. Oh cool. All right. Well I see my triple carburetors are still on your workbench there? Yep, intake still needs to go on. That's going to be done here in a little bit where I'm doing the exhaust side right now. Nice. Yeah, Hopefully there's no more spicy oil leak right there. You could smell it too. Which now I know why I could smell it because it's literally right. It's literally right there. Well are you gonna miss it when it's done? I want to drive it first before I can miss it because when I would bring you like a Bentley Azure or the old Turbo R uh you get angry at me I Do I do not like those old Bentleys but this one isn't too bad, huh? No, this is much. I would much rather work on this than any of your old Bentleys Okay, well I'm not selling the Azure they've tried a peer pressure me into selling Jean-Claude Van Damme's Azure. No, come on, it's awesome. You haven't had to do that much mineral oil work on it. It's It's a little bit, it's a little bit newer. you know it's a little bit more sorted out with that engineering. but I get it. And did you do a lot of the work on the Eibach as well? I did the work on the My box as well. You like it! I Really like the My box. Okay, yeah, if the parts prices weren't so high for now. Oh oh, that's true. Yes, yes, you've monetized yourself with a video with funeral music saying you're going to die owning a car I gave you right I did not say that I Started off by saying it was a very generous gift but it's scary. It is a little scared because of how long it was parked. Oh well. I gave it to the right person. Yeah, anybody else. that probably would have been a little bit of a headache, but uh, my box not going anywhere. Azure's not going anywhere. Um. I'm happy for the My box staying, but not so much for the Azure. Oh, it's good to be back in this thing and it's so cool to see the progress on the Jaguar E-Type if you haven't been following. there's two videos before this explaining why I bought it and everything wrong with it. Such a cool! Amazing Project One of my favorite cars for sure, but this one, well this one may take the cake. It is so comfortable and so nice, but it does have its limitations. But let's start with the good things about this car basically in the back. I have a mobile rolling office that I have actually done some business back there last week. Actually somebody came by to buy a car from me that I sold on cars and bids my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban and I didn't have a handy spot to do it. so I actually hit it back there. take a look. Well the first order of business here is to take care of some business. So Steven here bought my Suburban from cars and bids. Uh, my table is kind of full of junk over there. so I decided to just step into the mobile office. Here it works, doesn't it? It's almost speechless. The desks are out doing their job I think you drive the Suburban home. Now you saw we were filming that in my garage. But really I have a mobile office anywhere I Want to go? That's the amazing thing about this car. but in my garage is certainly my first downside. I thought I was going to park this thing on the install the smallest lengthwise and dwell. That presented quite a challenge. Pretty much a big butt puckering moment which uh, you can see for yourselves yes and over so slight. well very tight snag here so the my buck is in the third stall and I had to back it in. Very very very close. I mean we are kissing the back lawnmower size garage door there and still I'm not sure if this is going to go down. we're gonna have to watch it. Jeez. oh dear. God squeeze Oh, all right. well I can barely get my hand through there. My block life. Yes, the size is certainly a limiting factor of this car. Parking It's a challenge. Really, really challenging. Sometimes this is longer than a Ford Excursion but the performance oh my. God as we get on the highway 550 horsepower V12 Just ridiculous rocket ship for a car of this size and it is a big lady that knows how to dance. So I've been practicing some Maneuvers to get this thing out of tight spaces a little more easily foreign. Holy Moly. Holy moly, it just did a Rockford turn. They did a really good rock return. That's how I'm getting out of every parking situation now. So admittedly, this car isn't for everybody. But if you want an old school classy Mercedes experience for the cost of, well one air strut on this thing, the maintenance costs are crazy, the cars are very expensive themselves and it is huge. There is a perfect car that delivers well probably 70 percent of this my box experience and you just have to take a look at Mercedes greatest Hits album just a few years before and it's actually one of the three Mercedes I Just bought for a special occasion. What one I'm keeping. the other two are going to be a part of my Christmas special. more on that later. but let's go see the car. There it is and this is a very very long reunion in the making for me. Right here it is a 1997 Mercedes S500 and when they were developing this Maybach this is what ruled the world when it came to luxury sedans. The 140 chassis Mercedes S-Class It was widely reported that Mercedes spent over a billion dollars developing this chassis and it most certainly shows. It was unheard of at the time, and in later generations, Well, the quality took a big dip in favor of technology and that's the world we live in today. This car 240 000 miles on it and I actually saved it from the dead meat and Euro Asian Bob almost 10 years ago. Now admittedly, the S600 would be a better comparison much closer to the Maybach with its hydraulic suspension and a lot more technology reclining seats. but this S500 does have a lot and it has a lot more reliability than the V12 under the hood. An M119 V8 engine like I said 240 000 miles on this thing. The engine in transmission have never been apart, never been rebuilt. Although some maintenance, the timing chains have been done and when I actually bought it, it was ticking and it was sold to Euroasian Bob to the salvage yard. This is about 10 years ago because they were told by the Mercedes dealer that the engine was bad and that was just because of a top-end ticking noise and I heard it and immediately knew what it was. Euro Asian Bob did too and since I had just hit a coyote or a wolf or a dog in my at Toyota Prius this is when I was working for Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steak Burgers and was traveling a lot. so a 40 MPG Prius to get 50 cents a gallon. That was like a second paycheck at the time. but since that was disabled and getting fixed I needed a car because I was going to travel for about three weeks for a new store opening and at the time I only had my gram. there's 500 SL which I wasn't going to subject to a hotel in kind of an iffy area. leave that outside for a couple of weeks, it hasn't let the state in, probably 30. Years Anyway, there was also my old Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon which I didn't want to subject to the harsh winter weather for the exact same reason. So I bought this car and fix the little oil tubes that have broken their seal basically not lubing one side of the dual overhead cam and making a ticking noise because the lifters had collapsed, but no real damage was done. just the valve cover is off. You put on these little tubes that go from one side to the other and boom the engine was quiet I used it for that purpose I named this thing Blackbird and put an SR-71 plate on the front and drove this thing and absolutely loved it. But then I probably bought some other car and money got tight. So I sold this thing because it was perfectly working and functioning and have regret it ever since. But now I'm going to give the car away in my Christmas special along with four other Mercedes five, Mercedes total and a very fun way. but letting go of this one is going to be very very hard. When I give you a tour for all the car you get for the money, you will certainly see why. You'll have to excuse the dirt on this one. it just came off the truck from Louisiana but Blackbird is so so nice. This is all the original paint on this thing. You can certainly certainly use a buff in detail, but it's holding up so gosh darn well. they didn't have the paint bonding issues in this year of Mercedes so if it's exposed to a lot of salt, you start to see bubbling like that. But this one, well, really, that's the only spot. It's not that bad yet. and when you see the inside, well, it is equally nice. Everything is held up so well despite 242 000 miles, the approximate distance from the earth to the moon and a little bit beyond. And it's just incredible because this car, well, it wasn't carefully maintained, it was well used and driven, and it still looks like this. But there's a lot of similarities between this and the My Box. Starting with the double pane windows, you can see this isn't bulletproof. it was a rumor back in the day the glass is bullet resistant, which they did make armored ones of course, but this is just for extra insulation, which is why the My Buck is so quiet and why this is so quiet. They did away with that in future generations of S-Class But the biggest thing they did away with was the quality. You look at this door panel and you hear the door when it closes. Well, maybe that's not the best example because this window's a little rattly, but it is so substantial feeling and you can see how thick the door panel is itself. Same with the dashboard. Everything about this, it looks a lot like the Maybach The wood center console here and all the electronics have held up so so well and it is very very simple. Obviously there's no fancy screens to break in this thing. Very simple. Liquid Crystal displays normal lights, just very very old school. and then you go in the back and you have absolutely tons of room back here. The seats optional to recline as well. not on this car, but it does have the window shades in the side and the rear although they are manual. no partition unfortunately. But you do have heated seats in the back, no refrigerator, but that's kind of a gimmick. But you sit back here and you have all the room in the world and you even have a little mirror to check yourself. Really? before the my box, this was the car of choice for dictators and dignitaries and celebrities of course. Princess Diana was in one of these when she was in her accident where she died. It is just an iconic piece of Mercedes history. You can see the fake Bullet Hole in here I Bought this along with two other cars one a big one from my past especially with YouTube which we'll get to in my next video and this person lives in the New Orleans area and he would rent the cars out to film shoots and I believe this one was used quite a bit as a dignitary car. There's one photo of it having a bunch of extra antennas on it to make it look a a little more official, but he's semi retired now and he's gotten out of the movie rental business so he's willing to sell these cars to me and I'm so so happy to have it back. I'll be it temporarily, but it'll be so much fun to re-home this thing. but in the meantime I can still drive it around, which is what we're going to do right now. Listen to this: 242 000 miles doesn't even miss a beat. And no warning lights on in the slightest other than reminding me to check my seat belt, but even that's off. Just astounding. Absolutely astounding. It is a touch easier to maneuver as well. and no, I'm not going to do any rocker turns reverse 180s in this, but man, what a car! I Do not want to give this thing up to be honest, but I have a my box so I absolutely don't need this thing. But for the money, these cars are everywhere. for under ten thousand dollars with some miles on them, you get high mileage. Obviously, they're going to be a lot cheaper, but probably some more deferred maintenance to sort out, but with this one, everything works I mean everything that I try on this car comes on Comes Alive One button has fallen in I believe that's for the rear window shade, which I'm going to have to fish back out. That's what this hole is right here, but otherwise not much to do with this car. Suspension: quiet, over bumps, breaks, nice and solid and that is one benefit to this. It has traditional brakes, not the brake by wire system that Mercedes eliminated because it was too. Troublesome still ABS brakes but a lot better A lot more responsive and there is one cool little James Bond trick here up here you have the old cell phone which I'm not sure if it still Powers up. Let's give it a try here. I don't see the button. maybe it's maybe it's down here. this is the actual Talking portion of it. but how ridiculous is this? The car phone hidden up there? It does look like the liquid crystal display has bled out there, so this thing may be dead, but obviously it wouldn't work anyway with a modern cellular networks or whatever it is. 5G But this car is such an experience and it feels like an occasion when you're driving it. It feels really, really special even though they have depreciated too darn near nothing. And unlike the S-classes before this, it feels Thoroughly Modern in the way that you want it to feel when it comes to the Driving Experience of course the 126 that came before it like my 300sd. It does feel like an old classic car, which is neat, but if you're wanting something for a daily driver or a second backup daily driver, this would be the car to get right here and maintaining it shouldn't be nearly as bad. It does have air ride in the back, but all pretty reliable. The vacuum system that controls all this can be a little finicky. There's a pump that can be rebuilt under the seats, the controls like the door lock, the soft close features, the lumbar, that kind of stuff. But overall a very serviceable, very easy to own car with plenty of these in use and plenty of them in salvage yards unlike the My Buck well sourcing parts and repairing them much much easier. So this is actually what I would recommend you to Buy decent power too. Not 550 horsepower though. go for a little splash. Thank you for watching.

The W140 just looks so… Bloated. It's a fantastic car, but MAN is the W126 just so much more beautiful.

That there Mayback is nice, but my opinion that do not matter is these are not ever worth 500,000, just a name brand thing that dumb rich folks buy because they have too much money!!!!

I've been following hoovie for years. Such a huge fan. I always thought you had some kind of dislike for the W140. You got so close to getting one with the coupes. I didn't expect you to pull up to the car I just got out of an hour ago in my garage. Total 3 in my life. 1999 S320 LWB daily driver 180k miles. Pulled a nail out of the monoblock tire today. When my 1999 S500 grand edition came with a tick I thought the car was done too but it was easily sorted and now has been a great driver as well 124k miles. Seeing this video gave me a new found love for both of my cars. Thanks for your content hoovie. I can attest that 'blackbird' will be extremely faithful.

I don't know why but I am utterly fascinated with this car and this particular model. It's exciting beyond belief! Every aspect of this car from the purchase price to all the details and options, the seats and how they adjust into a virtual real bed, the partitions, intercom system, two difference A/C units — damn! I've never seen anything like it! Driving the daughter to school in this thing — total comfort and style. All it needs is a back compartment man servant to cook to order, serve, clean up, a laundry facility, toilet, shower, clothes rack … haha! No, this car as is is off the hook.

it is crazy how the mighty have fallen in the 2000s. Porsche comes to mind- the IMS bearing issue, but also the bore scoring. They put out un-coated engine blocks, just etched away the surface to ostensibly expose silicon in the high-silicon Alusil alloy blocks- but how much would it have cost to just do a Nikasil coating? And lo and behold bore scoring is an issue.
