Oh, it reset yep, nice, okay, so that's one last thing: yeah did the parking brake handle reset itself nope. Please fix that now that i know it exists. I won't stop doing it. Welcome to movies garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube - and this is my 2002 bmw z8.

It is the most expensive car that i've ever bought individually well north of a hundred thousand dollars, and that's for a car that most people would think. It looks like a well 10 000 z4, but it's actually a very special vehicle, in my opinion, the most beautiful bmw of all time, a tribute to the original bmw 507, but kind of rustle modded with an m5 v8 under the hood 400 horsepower to a six-speed Manual and a beautiful retro interior, this thing is awesome, but when i bought it had one issue that i quickly corrected, and that was the wheels it had. The original but chrome wheels and i went and got these alpenas that were also very, very expensive, but like most 20 year old, bmw owners. I made my car look pretty before i addressed all of its maintenance needs, and a very big issue has not been corrected on this car, even though it plagued bmw, z8 owners and can potentially total out the car i'll show you that here in a minute, but Also, there's another car, the bmw dream team.

Earlier a few months ago, i gathered up every single bmw from the model. Year 2001. It was a beautiful photo shoot all in silver and then i sold them all off, including my 740i and my bmw m5. I intended to keep at least one of those, but then i got my asking price for both so they're gone, but i had to buy one of them back, so one of them is coming back here shortly, but first let me show you what this z8 needs And then we're gon na head to the car ninjas, but before we hit the ninjas and see the new car i'd like to thank keeps for sponsoring this.

Well, let's go back to the z8, so bmw engineers, they just can't help themselves, but this one well, this one is pretty bad. This car, the entire body, the entire chassis, is aluminum and well aluminum.
As we know, a ford f-150 doesn't hold up as well when it comes to bed damage when it comes to accidents in some cases and well, the z8 certainly had their issues with all aluminum in the body uh 20 years ago. Yeah hood struts are an issue on bmw's as well, but this is a spring perch and this is a spring perch and they are both made out of aluminium and when you went over a pothole that was really bad or some rough roads or say hit a Curb these would warp they would crack. They would well pretty much total out the car when that happens. Thankfully, mine are undamaged.

They don't look very warped at all. One way to tell is to look down at the bolts and see if they line up, which, on this side, it lines up pretty good, and on that side it lines up even better. So maybe there's the beginning of some warpage with this one still not too bad, but bmw created a fix for this because it was such a big problem. They called it the performance pack, not we screwed up, here's what you need to do to fix it, and that is a big brace that goes across here and then a big spacer, looking thing that goes over these bolts to give some extra reinforcement to these spring Perches uh, it's all at the car ninjas right now, so we can go and check it out and have the car ninja put it on and then hopefully the car that i had to buy back will show up.

Oh it's just so so pretty in here. In addition, this bmw also needs a new valve cover gasket, because standard bmw on an old one, every three to five years, you're replacing the valve cover gaskets, because because and i'm not sure when the last service was done so we're gon na do an oil change As well, 37 000 miles on this car, that's actually high for a z8. These things didn't sell all that well and the people that did buy them didn't daily drive them so that dings the value a little bit, but still it was the cheapest z8 in the usa, even though it's the most expensive car i've ever bought. But let's get to this neglected maintenance over at the ninjas and then i don't have to worry about going over bumps anymore.

Well, this is one of those cars you just have to turn around and look back at so pretty and well. There's there's two of them. A z8 from washington state ninja hey, what's going on! Well, it's a 7 40! So hey yeah! Let me guess: timing chains, huh yeah, easy this time! Well, i came right out, unlike when we did mine a year or two ago, the one that i sold where this was the sword in the stone right. Exactly.

Oh, i've interrupted filming yeah. Ah, i see well there's i guess it's a good time for a plug card. Ninja's youtube channel uh be sure to go subscribe. I guess this video will be coming out at some point: yep, bmw timing chain, so i had you order that performance pack.
For me on the z8 right, which is bmw, speak for we screwed up, here's how you fix it. Is it here it's here, it's a it's a box, oh yep! So there's the big brace all right now that it's out, you can see very similar on the 740. It doesn't go up on the struts. It actually goes down here on some mounts kind of on the side like this yeah on the side, so there actually needs to be something little donuts reinforce the top which hopefully are in there yeah.

I hear them. Okay, jingle bells there. They are okay, so extra beefy reinforcement on the spring perches or the strut purchase whatever you call them, and then you don't have to worry about rooting. The car basically totaling it out over a pothole which happened a few times yeah, it's crazy.

I also i'll come by a little later i got a car showing up. I had to buy back one of the dream team cars which one you'll see. Well, here's the one that i had to buy back and it's a different color and definitely a huge difference in condition, but it is another 2000 bmw, m5 same as the z8, with the 400 horsepower v8 under the hood six-speed manual transmission, but in a beautiful four-door Sedan in le mans blue with only 80 000 miles, the heritage interior. This is a beautiful spec and this is actually the first car that i wanted to build the bmw dream team.

I wasn't concerned with color four or five months ago, but i really didn't understand the market and after i had assembled the bmw dream team every car from 2001. I still had the 740i sport and an m5 like this one in silver and i planned on keeping either of them. But when i listed every single car for sale, i put both of them at a price. I thought was high, but a price that i probably wouldn't be able to sell either of the flagship, sedans and well.

I ended up selling both i actually made money on the 740i sport and the m5, despite spending eight thousand dollars on it and spending something like 13 14 000 on it with shipping. I didn't lose money on that car with cosmetic issues and 160 000 miles. I just didn't realize how crazy the market had become on these vintage bmws, which i mean honestly makes sense, because you can't buy a driving experience like this anymore. Bmw other than the m2 doesn't build a car like this.

Even close, it's all technology, it's all! Well, pretty ugly, they do not look like this incredible time. Capsule example that does have some issues, which is why i was able to get it pretty darn cheap. Now i think the e387 series is one of the best looking sedans of all time, but the e395 series is pretty close and it offers a driving experience that the 7 series doesn't even come close to. And if you look at it i mean in le mans blue.

It does look very, very nice. Being a 2000 doesn't have the cool headlights which i'm okay with, but this one only 80 000 miles on it. So much better cosmetic condition and i bought this from a high-end used car dealer in florida - monaco motor group, but they do seem pretty upfront with their description of things, tons and tons of pictures, and it was a no reserve auction. I actually inquired on this car when it was a normal listing months ago, when i was starting to assemble the bmw dream team and it was at a much higher price, but this one i got for only 26 000.
So, like five grand more than what i sold the 160 000 mile example that i had with loads of cosmetic issues, this is an 80 000 mile car in a great color with the heritage interior. You can see the original built-in car phone just a gorgeous gorgeous car suede headliner, still holding up really well, so only five grand more than that hooptie m5 that i sold, but it doesn't drive as well as that hoopty one after the car ninja went through everything. The suspension felt so tight everything felt so good on that car and it wasn't leaking and this one well, since it's a bmw of course it's leaking. Of course, it has lights on, but still a very, very nice car to start with, and it even has in the trunk.

It's pretty crazy stuff. The original ownership vhs cassette to get to know your car navigation, all weather floor mats. Nice little illustration here to show you how you can fit three golf bags in the trunk of your m5. So a much much nicer car, but we're kind of starting over with an 80 000 mile car that has a lot of deferred maintenance, which i knew about buying the car at such a low price.

Still, i don't know how much if i'm spending three or five grand on this thing, i'm probably gon na - be all right in the money. But if i'm spending another eight thousand dollars like i did in the last one uh might be a little over. But i think i hope this one is actually a keeper famous last words for me i know, but after experiencing all the cars, this is the one that i kept thinking about and well the right car was able to come back to me. So, let's head over to the car ninjas and hopefully hopefully it doesn't need too much.

Work starts right up and quiet, and surprisingly only one light is on and that's for the trash control right. There no check engine light which, on a bmw is great range. Only 22 miles, though i need to get some guess where we head to the car ninjas uh, but not leaking coolant, just leaking some oil and it just doesn't feel as tight as the other one after the car ninja went through that silver one. So so.

Well probably tires have a lot to do with it, but we'll see oh yeah phil. This one won't grab traction like. I said the tires aren't as good as the michelins that i put on the silver car, but even though it doesn't feel quite as tight, even though it only has 80 000 miles, it still has that magic, and this one well, this one still has the smell. 80 000 miles in a pristine, unmolested interior has that vintage bmw smell which, when i worked at a bmw dealer 15 plus years ago, and this was a used car that we would see regularly on the lot.
This takes you back since smell is supposed to be that sense. That's the most strongly tied to memory and yep memories. I also have memories of all the money that i spent on the last m5 and other m5s and other bmws. Well, here's the site.

I know it's a repair shop, but still i had to film a bmw coming up. Oh yeah, i eat time. That's! Oh! You bought that. Yes, new project, kinda sorta.

I want to surprise my wife. You know i surprising your wife with broken cars is not a take, my word for it. That's it doesn't. Work, might reconsider.

Well, either she's going to be happy or divorce me either or both sound expensive, whose car is this. This this is mine. I just fixed one for you, i i know, but then nolan was so nice. He wanted it yeah, and this this one's le man blue.

I like the color a lot and i like the interior, but the lights are on. It's leaking we're in weird sunlight, so yeah we can go in and yes take a look. Yep you're you're back lit like your jesus or something just honk. It john will open it for you.

So this one has some sort of error to where it won't go into neutral, got stuck coming off the tow truck like this and johnny's now, underneath it risking his life, because bmw engineers are just really special people. The only way to put in neutral you have to drive a torx. Let me get out before i die, so you wanted this yep hey! It's rolling! Well, congratulations! I was just talking about modern bmws, but that's not really its fault, because it was in an accident right, um, some happen underneath so yeah. The common thing of those without even looking is the front drive, shaft sits up and with the torque it just hits the oil pan and cracks it.

So, oh, that's what i'm hoping it is. Well! Here's another engine out on a 550. The engine looks well. That looks new brand's faking it special order from germany.

How much was that it's a secret, no they're selling for like 38 hundred bucks, that's pretty cheap for a replacement engine, but it needs a new engine at what 100 000 miles. 109.. That's ridiculous! The engine like seized up somehow yeah bolting, the old turbos back on and then putting back in yep - and this is yours too right. Yes, i think we're rubbing off on you.

These youtubers bad influence yeah, but it's actually been a minute since i've been back here because the holiday and all that stuff and the z8 well, it had some more problems. Yeah. I started working on it and i noticed both your power steering lines right here from the reservoir leaking, so called bmw, it's a special order, so it takes they're coming from germany. I guess so.

Okay, well hope it doesn't leak on this fine specimen here. No, this is yeah, oh no yeah! I don't even know why i agreed on this, but it's here. Well, you checking fuel pressure yeah, it's weird, because the fuel pump works it's brand new, but there is no fuel coming out here. So, oh, why well should we look at the m5? Yes, what you've been doing with it? Uh yeah, that was the previous owner a little nicer way nicer! It's like looking at the v8 it it is pretty darn close yeah.
It's probably leaking oil from the same spot as the z8. I would guess yes, indeed right there. What is it with bmw and valve cover gaskets? Why can't they do it in the power steering alliance too, and really that's why every single, bmw, i think i've ever bought and brought to you, has leaking valve cover gaskets. Well, here's with the power steering line.

Somebody just changed it and it's rubbing against the oil filter, housing. Oh and it's leaking again, oh poop. I guess it's a cheap design on the gaskets. I don't know what to say, but yeah i mean well.

At least the body doesn't warp and crack in the strut uh perches, like other bmw, so the structure of the car just have to worry about yeah, more oil like a nasty leak right there. Well, let's go up and see here we go brand new brakes. That's good bushings they're like ah they can last you a little a little longer yeah. It doesn't feel as tight as the last car, which you just went through yeah uh yeah cause.

I put stronger struts in it. That's why? Oh, not bad, not bad uh. They came from the east coast; it actually came from florida, so a little, i think, by way of chicago originally according to the carfax, which is why we're seeing a little bit of surface rust, yeah yeah, which i knew about not bad, which i guess is this A fuel line - that's that is a brake line. Oh yeah, wonderful, yeah.

Those are few lines right here. Okay and as far as rust goes it's not it's not bad at all. No no suspension is super tight. That's good no leaks on the diff so so far, so good, um, okay moving forward is that john yeah he's trying to get like a sponsorship from from nas.

I guess is this just today: uh, yes, 12 now, two days, probably his drinks. Now it's like water, that sounds like and he's always tired. Yeah that sounds awful is that i get the flu during us. I get a headache drink nuts.

This is medication. I guess super clean. It is very nice yeah. There's that power steering line you're talking about huh yep, it's robin here and he's driving against the motor mounts and the other one right here this one here.

So those are super, easy fix and, like i said, the valve cover so hey. You did great on this. One not bad what'd, you pay for it. Well, i sold a silver one for 21 and bought this one for 26..

You did great yeah, it's a nice car to have to throw some money at, but you know, but you, but you had the other one driving. So nice, i could feel the difference with the michelin tires with the shocks. Oh there's, the one light on. We have to scan the traction control: real, quick, okay, that's it's pretty bouncy a little jiggly for an m5 yeah yeah time for some b8s in there.
I guess since they're original and the b8s did feel so good, oh yeah yeah. Well also how about a light that that's a look yeah uh is your steering angle sensor? Oh, so it's not! The computer send off thing like last time. It's a tiny sensor like this. It's mounted on your steering column.

So how deep this uh? It's just going to hurt my back! That's all! Oh! You don't want to crawl underneath, but labor-wise, it's they're they're, not very expensive. Oh so john's young right he's broken! Oh well, yeah, the nos energy drink start. The nice energy drinks aren't fixing his back. Two knee surgeries doesn't help either.

Oh all right, so nothing earth shattering on this car. No just the normal, bmw things that we've dealt with a thousand times before and i guess shocks and tires have at it. Well, i guess finish the z8. Then i'll drop off this.

Yes, absolutely and we'll keep this going into 2022.. Oh, you want the light to go away. Oh it reset yep, nice, okay! So that's one last thing: yeah did the parking brake handle reset itself nope. Please fix that.

Now that i know it exists. I won't stop doing it. So we'll start off 2022 right. Uh, am i your number one customer yep, i mean not just you saying that as far as like yeah, we looked at the books yeah, so that's two shops where i've probably 30 or 40 grand last year about 30 ish, 30 grand in broken uw's last year, But i'm i'm settling down.

I think this is the one i want to marry and the z8's this is bought. Thank you. Thank you. Fingers crossed thank you for watching.
