Yeah, when a prius gets its catalytic converter stolen, it sounds more like a lawn mower, but when a v10 excursion gets its catalytic converter stolen, it sounds like well and it sounds kind of like a viper, actually the viper's a v10 just listen to that. This is by far the loudest car that i currently own and as cool as it sounds, i can't keep it like this. I have to get it fixed, welcome to hooves garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube, and i have another one owner auction beauty right here. It is a 2000 ford excursion with the mighty v10 and it was a one owner vehicle that was traded in to a wholesale auto auction, and i bought it for only two thousand dollars now.

I've had one of these before i had it on the youtube channel, but that was with the mighty 7.3 liter turbo diesel that i sold on cars and bids with 200 000 miles on it, in average condition for 20 thousand dollars. A sum that i thought was a huge amount of money for an excursion, something as ancient as this, but apparently i sold way too soon, because now we're seeing some record-setting prices well over the original msrp of the ford excursion stuff, like a hundred thousand dollars for Low mileage examples even cars with a hundred thousand miles. They brought sixty seventy thousand dollars, but this one does not have the diesel. It is the 6.8 liter very, very thirsty, v10 engine, the gasoline equivalent that could still pull a lot way better than the 5.4 v8.

But a massive v10 engine under the hood and it's still a four wheel - drive it limited a one owner 220 000 miles, which is one of the reasons why it's so cheap. Another reason why is rust, which we'll see in a little bit, but also because bits were stolen off of this rig yeah two things were stolen from this excursion. One of them is kind of a nuisance. The other one is a huge criminal epidemic that really really needs to stop, but before i show exactly what was stolen on the ford excursion and why i'd like to thank shipstation for sponsoring today's video shipstation is the leading web-based order management and shipping software designed to Make retailers exceptionally efficient at processing fulfilling and shipping their e-commerce orders 100 of my order, fulfillment from my merch sales is sent out using shipstation because it makes selling just about any kind of product so much easier.

Now this excursion was a sight unseen, mystery purchase that i just went on the fact that it looked really nice in the photos and it was a one-owner truck that was traded in and it was at an auction house being ran through. I figured it had too many miles and probably something wrong with it, which is why they only wanted two thousand dollars on it, and i thought well why not. These things are getting so dang expensive, especially in four wheel, drive like this.

No, it's not the diesel, but the v10 is a pretty potent and very thirsty engine that people still seem to like and well. I thought why not a second stab at it. Also, the limited package which you get the nice two-tone trim leather interior, which now i shall give you a tour of the first thing. Actually, that was stolen out of this rig and you can see pretty decent leather interior.

That's held up not bad for 220 000 miles, this seat bottom's been replaced, but uh the knobs have been taken, and this is a very common thing to happen at dealers auctions, and i don't really understand why it seems like dealers are superstitious and they take these Things hoping that they take a piece of it, maybe they own it or they need it for their cars. I don't really understand it's. A big problem at auto shows as well. You see new cars at auto shows the knobs are gone because either they've been stolen or actually the dealers themselves have taken them off because they do get stolen.

So that's one weird kind of annoying thing that i have to like use tweezers to work. My air conditioning and my four wheel drive, but that's just a minor issue. Obviously people love the excursion for its size. It sits on the f-250 platform.

It's several feet longer than a chevy suburban, a lot wider like six inches taller than a suburban or an expedition, and look at all the room you have. This is just unbelievable. The amount of space it can tow as much as a three-quarter ton pickup truck, and you can haul well like nine people in this thing, it's not something ford or really any other automaker would make ever again thanks to government mandates, even though the demand on these Is so high that prices are skyrocketing? I mean this engine under here. It is a total dinosaur, the mighty 6.8 liter v10 under the hood, which gets all of like six miles per gallon city, maybe eight, if your lucky highway, uh, not all that much better but other than all the gas.
It's consuming. It's actually a pretty solid engine and you can see it looks pretty dry under here. No big leaks for a 220 000 mile vehicle. It doesn't look that bad and it looks fantastic in the photos.

You walk around it. You can see there's a little bit of home brew repairs here. They bang the fender a little bit here and then this probably didn't fit anymore. So they just put some screws in did the same thing here on a rear piece of trim, just a bunch of home screws into the body, something you would expect, but something you can't really see on an excursion.

You definitely want to look before you buy. One is open the doors because, behind the doors are the rocker panels, they're completely covered up by the doors and when you open them, you find yes, rust. Rust has taken a t-rex sized bite out of this rocker, unfortunately, and it keeps going and going and going and that's something that i couldn't see in the photos, and you know how much i love rust and it just goes well all the way around this thing. Unfortunately, and then you see this puddle on the floor here - that is unfortunately brake fluid from this rear brake line right here i have to keep topping off brake fluid, so that is definitely something i should not be driving this thing at highway speeds, i'm not.

Don't worry, but that's not my big issue see more rust. Another t-rex bite here, and i think the issue is this - is where you would mount say, a step rail and when you screw into that you're compromising the original finish of the vehicle by drilling holes and putting in running boards. In addition, you're giving dust and dirt and mud and stuff moisture a place to collect and just eat away at the car - and this is somebody's well home brew repair of this. They took just basically like a fence rail post.

I think and welded it on there. So they could have a step rail to go up, but this isn't something structural, because this does have a frame. This thing can keep going rusty like this forever and it is, you know, pretty presentable with the door closed. Unfortunately, though, this thing did have something big stolen out of it and that's under here there's the exhaust going out the back, the muffler behind the drive shaft, and then you go here and there's no catalytic converter.

This has such easy access to the cast that somebody probably cut it out in well seconds, maybe a minute at that with a good powered sawzall and they were on their way with several hundred dollars worth of rare metals inside of the catalog converter, and this is Just getting so annoying so out of control friend urination bob, he owns a car dealership. He has to deal with catalytic converter thieves constantly several times a year. He has converters stolen either out of his yard, they jump the fence or they take him from cars that he hasn't had moved in the back. It's a constant problem, the barn that i still rent a few miles away.
The owners of that have a few cars parked outside some trucks. They had their cat stolen. Even in my own neighborhood here, a few catalytic converters have been stolen, but it is everywhere. Prius is a huge target because of the valuable metals inside of them back in the mid-2000s.

They were putting platinum, palladium, all kinds of crazy things in the catalytic converters that are now very, very valuable and thieves are just stealing them at record alarming rates and well they're not really prosecuted if they are caught and thrown in jail, they're out almost immediately and Doing it again, it is so frustrating and so costly for owners who have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in some of the rare cars cases to get a new catalytic converter, and it just absolutely needs to stop. There's two ways that it's gon na stop. One everybody's gon na go all electric. There won't be catalytic converters, then the point is moot and we're just all driving electric cars, but really that's not gon na happen for a long time.

The realistic thing is they really need to crack down on a federal level. On these people that are stealing catalytic converters, because i guarantee you they're stealing catalytic converters and they're doing it to do other terrible things. Drugs, you know, put them back their maserati and haul them all over places. They are doing bad things with this money.

It's not like they're, giving it to their church or feeding their family on it, and rather than throw them in jail for their drug habit, if they can support themselves without doing anything illegal. Who cares if they're doing things illegal, like stealing cattle converters to do drugs or whatever they're doing that's when you nuke them? And this could be an epa thing? This could be a federal, fine and serious jail time thing and you could crack down on the people. Dismantling these catalytic converters, they need a title for every single one, a copy, a picture of it. Just like a junk car before you go and get it shredded, they need a copy of the title.

It should be the same thing with catalytic converters and state by state they're doing some things, but on a federal level, this is something they should be doing. It's going up like a hundred percent every year, the theft it's just getting so out of control, and it's actually resulted in this excursion sounding, admittedly pretty darn cool. So let's hear it yeah when a prius gets its catalytic converter stolen. It sounds more like a lawnmower, but when a v10 excursion gets its catalytic converter stolen, it sounds like well, and it sounds kind of like a viper, actually the viper's a v10 just listen to that.
This is by far the loudest car that i currently own and as cool as it sounds. I can't keep it like this. I have to get it fixed. The car wizard isn't an exhaust shop, he doesn't do mufflers, so i need to take it to a muffler shop, but not before i hoon it just just a little bit my poor neighbors.

Now i actually called to shop in between clips here to see. If i can get this thing fixed today and well, i could but it was going to cost me 900 to put on a new catalytic converter and that's that's an astounding amount of money on a 2 000 ford excursion. So i kind of stopped it gave me pause and now we're just going to drive straight up to the car wizards and then look it over, because if this thing's a total goner, it makes no sense to just put 900 into a vehicle. That's not going to be viable for me or somebody else, so we'll head there now.

Hopefully i have enough brake fluid to get me. There there's actually a warning light that comes on when the fluid gets low, so i have a catch there. This thing now it sounds truly as mean, as it looks, full throttle. That's 60..

That sounds better than the viper. It sounds like a a race car. It sounds like something exotic like lamborghini-ish. It doesn't rev very high.

It shifts about 4 500 rpm if it kept going. That's incredible, but actually, when you get off the throttle, it's reasonably quiet, so maybe i could keep it this way. No! No! No! I! I can't keep it this way, but it's been a while, since i've had one of these, i sold mine a little over a year ago. Maybe it's been two years ago now, and i did forget the road presence of this thing.

It does feel gargantuan normal suvs. Just feel like little teeny, tiny ants that you can just run right over and that was actually a problem with the excursion when they were testing these things. They were doing crashes head-on with other cars and it would just monster truck over the car, so they actually put bumper reinforcements down below. So it doesn't do that and those bits are all rusted in this thing now but oh well, i i get why people love these things.

I get why you would seek one out and spend a lot of money spend a hundred thousand dollars for one. No, i would get an escalade diesel, probably before i spent a hundred thousand dollars on one of these, but it is really really cool. Yes, open the wizards, there's no muffler newton right. I fit right in holy crap that thing's loud.

It is obnoxious and amazing. I guess you bought it in newton, no, no, i didn't buy it in newton, yeah i'll turn it off. So we can actually talk. You know we make fun of newton people for having no mufflers, but do you ever think they're just stolen off cars left and right because that's well that's what happened here: the cats or whatever yeah yeah stolen catalytic converters and they're 900 to replace so before.

I do that i figured would just look this thing over. It was only two thousand dollars for a v10 excursion. Four wheel drive, but she way cheap you're full holy crap, yes wowza. Well, i guess: is there a room anywhere, there's room in the end? Oh over here, oh the four post.
Okay, all right! Well, i see you got my dad's trans am up here. You're gon na save redneck christmas. I am so they're playing smoky in the bandit at the drive-in tomorrow and i wanted to borrow my dad's trans. Am they had one in high school? So both my dad and my mom had high school 78 trans ams and of course it wouldn't start.

He never drives it, but figure out. What's wrong. Yes, it's out of air in the tire! That's why it won't start uh. No, that's not why it won't start it's this guy! It's a fuel pump! That's i guess some old mechanical fuel pump huh, it's yeah! It doesn't do anything, it's not pumping so on these it's on the front of the engine right, that's run by a push, rod or something yeah.

It's on the timing cover through there yeah okay and how does that feel? There's a diaphragm inside that's probably torn okay. We can get fuel, we could siphon fuel and it would come through there and if we sprayed starting fluid on the carburetor, it would start right up so that bit the dust bit the dust, easy fix, huh yep we're still waiting for parts in the ferrari land. Rover we're still waiting on suspension, tuning finicking, yep and michael has coveted. He came back from a wedding with kobet, so he's the one on that.

What else do i have here? Oh my, oh, oh, my god, you have a nissan monocross cabriolet in here. Yes, what is it doing? The top doesn't work, that's it the one thing that makes these special. It doesn't work, i don't think most people say most of them are broke. Really.

I don't know this one's going to get some sensors or something in the rails is bad and it shouldn't be taken care of. Hopefully, that's all oh. I mean it's like the worst suv ever made, but it is special they're becoming collectors items because of that reason, there's hardly any left anymore. An all-wheel drive, cvt convertible.

You can't even really call it an suv. I don't what is it? It's a thing. It's a cross, is it a cross dressing? It's a careful all right. It's a cross cavalry! Let's go! Look at a real suv.

You remember my 7.3 excursion. This one is a limited and it's the v10. Yes, and luckily it's not a three valve v10. No it's the pre-three valve which are actually pretty pretty decent engine, yeah yeah and the spark plugs.

I think the threads get stripped well, these on the spark plugs can break off in the head. If you go to change them, that half of it breaks off in the head, but right, that's the one thing or i've known people will do a bad tune up on them and then they'll blow the spark plug out. And then it really sounds much much worse than this, but otherwise yeah pretty solid, and i i don't see any issues other than the brake fluid leaking out very quickly from the back. I don't really see anything splooging all over in the front yeah for a 2 000 excursion it caught on power, yeah! Well, okay, you, like this little uh fix here, that's nice! I also like the step rail.
Oh right, you didn't notice that yeah! That's because of the rust you know these things love the rust and the rockers which you can't see because of the doors, but they uh it's on there real good, that's just angle. Brackets you buy at the farm store yep. I guess it works. It works.

This is a clean one owner improvised special, so shall we uh it's gon na, be a little tight maneuvering here to get it up on the floor post, but i imagine it'll fit just run as fast as you can into the four five eight and then back Up, ah that yeah we're not doing that. That's that's a different youtuber that crashes his own plane and such these things are just so massive. They are. You know it's hanging off the edges, it's so wide.

That is ridiculous. So, even on the other side, it's yep hanging off a little bit on the front yep all right. Well, let's see if this bin pack can take the uh 8 000 pounds of excursion huh, i think it can well there's my brake fluid. It wasn't out make sure i don't hit the beam.

Oh yeah, yeah, good call, this isn't our usual setup, so we have to do a little limbo here. Okay! Well, here we go another rusty, auction, special eh. It is crusty. It's a surface surface peeling off the radiator is nice and dry looks like they probably tore our cooler line at one time.

That's one way to fix it. Let's see it's a little oily there, but not too bad. That's oil filter. This oil change was two years ago.

Oh okay, so we need to do that. Yeah, oil change for sure. What's up with you, what's up with you in the oil change things lately, i i don't know hey. This is uh.

Oh man. This is dust shield, we'll just pull that off. Okay, it's no good anymore! There's lots of corrosion on this thing, yep. How many miles did you say was on it? 220.

000 miles. 220 yep. You know easy illinois miles. You can see.

This is the rocker here and you know that's where left. Oh, that's where a running board would have been mounted and at one time that's what it does. There's some farmer fixes it. That's how they reinforced it.

That's actually pretty brilliant. Now, let's see they, they went right to the frame wow, oh wow! That's how you do it. Farmers only.com you've been on there. No that didn't exist.

When you met your wife yeah. I met her on aol. Oh very nice. There's our cat yeah missing 900.

Some stupid thief: oh man, this is sort of to be expected on an excursion of this age where it came from. You know, but it's not anything. That's going to you know fall apart. It's not like the car is going to rust in half.
You got the frame right here and it's still yeah very solid. It's probably got quite a bit of life left in it even like it is these frame rails. They look like i-beams from a skyscraper or something it's ridiculous, and then this differential holy crap. It's it's just enormous.

I think that's the 10.25 sterling differential. That's a big boy! Yeah! Here's our leak, it's just the line leaking that somebody replaced this and didn't. I don't know they didn't do something right, that's a new hose, so an easy fix, then yeah. So they re that one's the old one see it's.

There's no! Writing on the rubber, but you come over here - got a line yeah what the heck, so somebody just failed. Yes, they might have cross-threaded this and it's spraying all over the place. Um easy fix all right, so i need an oil change. I need an exhaust fix and a brake bleed and then i'm back in business you're back in business yeah, and so i know you're busy, but uh yeah go to town, i suppose, have fun and then i don't think i'm gon na keep this thing.

I was thinking i don't want to give this thing to somebody, but then it's like average mbg was 11 miles per gallon, which that's on the highway yeah. So i give them this car and then they have basically a car payment and gas if they're driving very far, but maybe, if they're doing short distances lots of kids, i don't know we'll find a home for it. Yeah yeah. I don't really understand why these are bringing a hundred thousand dollars when they're perfect, though, but they are really cool a relic of the past.

The thing is, is that you can't buy this anymore? No, no. You certainly can't, nor should you probably i mean it's just such an irresponsible ridiculous vehicle that people mostly didn't use to tow heavy things. They were using it to haul kids to soccer practice, which is just ridiculous and when they were building them, they kind of ran out of demand for them. So that's why they quit making them, but now well obviously, there's a huge demand.

So should they make the excursion again, should they not, i don't know they, they won't, but it's still cool. Thank you for watching.

In NY state which is completely controlled by democrats a thief stole my Catalytic converter and he was caught with 20 of them in the back of his SUV and he didn’t even spend one single week in jail. Slap on wrist from liberal courts

Buy them all. You cant tow the stuff people want to tow with the capacity and luxury people want anymore!. Expeditions and Suburbans Are Not Ultimate solutions. So EXCURSIONS Do and should command better than average prices.

I listened to that sound all winter my 04 shop truck had it's cat attempted stolen twice but it is blown out already so I have to keep welding it back in.

I had a 2000 F350 V10 Dump truck for a work truck for a summer (landscaping company). It had around a 28-29 gallon tank. Not joking, when loaded it got 6-7 MPG. HQ had a gas tank we'd fill up every day before we went out. We one had a job that was about 90 miles away one way. We had to stop on the way home to fill up again to make sure we'd make it. It was the slowest, weakest, saddest work truck of all time. It struggled to do 55 MPH when loaded with even a yard of material. There is a reason that V10 never made a comeback. As much as I disliked that truck, it never broke down but was absurdly expensive to run even when gas was cheap.

Yeah, cat thefts.. If only people didn’t parade their ostentatious wealth around in a society where people who don’t keep up are considered disposable. Then maybe this kind of thing wouldn’t happen… nah, that wouldn’t be enough. Good luck!

I could use the a big suv like that lol I have 2 large dogs and have no way to take them for a ride unless they have to squeeze into my 2 door car. I wish they made things like this now

That v10 is an awesome engine. My dad got an old 2006 E-450 16' box truck from the local U-Haul a few years ago. 185,000 miles going strong. That thing moves fast, and moves people too lol.

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Jack Watkins says:

To get to the cat, they didn’t need to jack up the truck. This old truck still has a lot going for it. Maybe somebody in Newton could start a YouTube channel about restoring rare rusty SUV’s and trucks. “I restored and sold Hoovie’s $2,000 V10 4 wheel drive Excursion for $50,000.”

I have an exhaust shop here in AZ who did an Audi A8 4.2 for me for 600 bucks with a Magnaflow aftermarket cat and it worked perfectly. You can probably get a cheaper one if someone can just splice it in for u

List of thing to do: Swap a 12v Cummins with a P7100 into it. Should be able to get at least 26 MPG out of it tuned right, then it's not a car payment to get from Wichita to Newton.
    Fix the rust.
Fix the brake and bleed system.
    Change oil.

We absolutely love our 2002 7.3 Excursion limited. Almost 270,000 miles and runs like an champ, drove it from Seattle to Phoenix and back and it gets 700 miles to a tank on the freeway.

You can tell how closely Hoovie registered his BMW and Mustang in the Ship Station ad based on how close the numbers on the plates are

On that note, I can hear my wallet screaming bloody murder at the thought of how much money it costs to keep his fleet registered

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars rktrumble says:

Totally agree! We need to crack down on these thieves, on criminals in general. The only way to deter crime is to make the punishments severe enough to scare people out of doing the crime in the first place. These soft on crime policies that have plagued this country over the last couple decades is the “Root Cause” of this epidemic.

  14. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Glenn Stiller says:

Chances are that Excursion came with the factory running boards which is what caused the rockers to rust so badly. Common issue with those boards.

yuuuuuuuup I had mine cut off just a few months back, right before christmas '21. Fuckers crawled under my excursion while I was at work. It was loud AF and all that exhaust gets in the cab and it sucks. If I had walked out on a break while they were under my truck there'd be some dead theives floating down the Columbia… $1000 job to replace if you can find a muffler shop that isn't busy patching up chopped pruii

  16. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Flies2FLL says:

Tyler, this can never happen at the Federal level. You see, the republicans would fight against it tooth and nail because they see it as "commerce" and in any case anything that Biden/Democrats are for, they are automatically AGAINST.

    Great video!

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars thahitman2 says:

The reason people are taking all those little bits is because most the time they don't make them anymore and they can sell them for whatever they want on Ebay. I have noticed for the last decade or so at junkyards there are certain things taken off all the vehicles in the lot its very common. I often see a group of 3 or 4 people with a little tool bag and a list going to every single car taking very specific things off every 1, it is actually quite annoying when you can't find things because people are running a little racket, also currently because of the supply shortages and shipping issues there are a ton of things shops will pay big money for used because they can't get them new or can't get them for months out and will pay for parts no questions asked.
