Well, what do you got? Wow pressure does not decrease when venting gallery. That's like is it it can't fart, that's right. The exhaust valve on the compressor is not letting air to release, so it can't release there. So it's basically like it's got gas yeah.

Oh, i i know what that feels like this poor car. Oh welcome to hooby's garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube, and this purchase right here is certainly well true to form a dumb one or is it a 2010 land rover range rover autobiography supercharged and probably the most unreliable range rover ever made from a Cost of ownership standpoint uh, but it may be worth owning. That's what's weird about this, but more on that in a little bit, it's been a very very weird week because in my last video i listed all my cars for sale that video went trending. I got over 3 000 emails.

Please don't email me anymore, i'm not selling any more cards. I've actually got an email on every single car that i offered, which was all 40 of my fleet and i've sold well 20, plus and counting including some of them uh. Behind me, it's been fun and terrifying and crazy all the same time. So please don't email me anymore.

I have emails on every single car multiples and well some i just really don't want to sell some of the prices that i put on the cars that i wanted to keep were. I don't want to sell prices and in this crazy market those aren't crazy prices. Uh so some of her selling - i, i can't believe it uh, but i have sold my riptide blue escalade, my 1994 suburban as well. So this is my new daily driver for the family, a 2010 range rover which you'd think it'd be really stupid, but i'm actually really happy with the range rover experience that i've had so far with my wife.

She has a 2017 supercharged long wheel base. That now has 56 000 miles. We bought it with 39 000 miles, it's had a coolant, hose blown off and some suspension work, clunks that were fixed, but other than that it was all under warranty. It's been uh, pretty reliable and every time we would go out as a family.

I would usually hop in that because it's still fun to drive, rather than say my escalade or the old suburban, because it's just more fun to drive. So i was getting more miles and this well popped up for sale actually with my friend urination bob, who has bought several of the cars from from the sell-off uh, and it was only 8 500. It was traded in at the buick dealer and it had a dead battery and some warning lights in the dash and he was able to scoop it up for an incredibly cheap price. I had not planned on purchasing a range rover at all for myself, but then i saw it in person.

I'd stopped by a shop to look at some cars and saw this and did the whole pound the roof. How much and well bought it. I thought it'd be funny to buy the most unreliable range rover ever made to see how bad it is and as i've driven it for the last few days. It's actually quite wonderful.

These things may be total basket cases, but they're probably worth owning now we'll go over the pluses and the minuses here in a little bit with a tour of this range rover and then we're going to go up to the car wizards and see everything that's wrong With it, but to give a bit of background, of course, the range rover, a fantastic one, the original luxury suvs - and this is the sport. A smaller model that came out in the mid 2000s after the stormer concept was unveiled a pretty cool concept of a smaller range rover and it seemed silly at the time for land rover to come out with yet another suv because they had the range rover they Had the lr3 or the discovery, and they had also the little itty bitty freelanders so having a fourth suv in a lineup, seemed absurd. They were the only ones doing it, but now every single automaker has like four to six or ten suvs in their lineup. So it's not all that unusual, but this was a big mechanical refresh in 2010, most notably with a supercharged v8 engine 510 horsepower 510., the 0-60 only 5 seconds flat, which actually it feels much faster because once you're going this big old bread box really really moves And basically it's the same engine.
That's in my wife's car, a 2017 range rover that was a lot more expensive, but in this crazy market it's worth more than actually what i paid for it. Even though we've added a bunch of miles - and it's been almost two years so crazy, but this one only 8 500 bucks - and there is a big reason why, which i'll explain now so this all new v8 engine for land rover brought back a very old problem For the range rovers back in the day when they sourced the engines from bmw and had to deal with timing chain woes, they went with the jaguar v8s after that and well they were more reliable than the bmw engines, but then well. They found it again with this and unfortunately on the supercharged cars. It is a lot more complicated because you have well a lot more going on up here.

All this has to come off when the timing chain goes bad in addition to the engine completely being torn apart and people are quoted, eight nine, ten thousand dollars for this job, and for that reason the 2010 to 2013s, i believe, are way way cheaper than the 14S and up because of this big issue, additionally, you have the air suspension, woes and all the other normal things you would get with a range rover of this age, but that big old gotcha is the reason why these things are so cheap. Now this one has never been done as far as i know, 105 000 miles, and it is completely quiet. So it's fine for now, but this is around the miles or a little sooner usually when they go bad. So the car is virtually a ticking time bomb, but is it a ticking time bomb worth owning and i think well, i think yes, because look at this thing.

8. 500 - for this beautiful range, rover 510 horsepower and it's the autobiography. So it's the high trim model. You get the nicer wheels nicer grille.
This is the origin of the svr. The hottest range over you can get right now, and even i used one of those is a hundred thousand dollars. This is a small fraction of it where you basically get the same engine. The same basic size and you get a very, very nice interior with the autobiography two-toned perforated leather seats.

You can see the special trim here on the autobiography sport. Much much nicer than say a normal trim range rover and inside well. It certainly doesn't look like a car. That's 12, 13 years old.

I mean just look at it, but a very very nice place to be, and this thing is in really good shape. Backseat we have the car seat in and you do have to put the seat. Pretty far forward to fit a car seat, but not uncomfortably so say like my old e-class wagon, that was a trouble for my wife. You have dual dvds in the headrest which nobody uses anymore, but a really cool touch that i like is they put the controls for the dvds and a headphone jack in the door itself, so you don't have to worry about losing headphones or something like that.

You just plug it in right there and control the movie and in the rear. It's actually pretty ingenious. The way they did. This hatch, you have a normal half hatch.

Then you push this button for the full and you have lots of room came with all the weathertech floor. Mats too, this thing was really nice, actually a clean ownership, history and traded in at the buick dealer of all places. So bob got a really good deal on this thing at 8, 500 bucks - and he passed it along to me because he's buying the 30th anniversary camaro and then ended up buying a bunch of other cars. So i kind of got this at the same deal.

He got lucky, as i said for sure, because the battery was dead and it had some warning lights on which are still on for the suspension and there's some clunks in the front. End uh. I don't really know what's wrong, so we'll head up to the car wizard now and see well how bad this thing could possibly be for 8 500 bucks. It doesn't seem that bad, but uh, really you never know so, i'm in a reasonably comfortable seat for a modern car, and everything in here feels like it has really good quality, and then you have this 510 horsepower with just incredible.

I mean it's the same as my wife's car, but my wife's car is a big old tank. It's a long, wheelbase, really heavy range rover kind of a pig. This is the sport and it is well quite a bit more sporty, smaller, more nimble and it's fun. It's actually fun to drive now this purchase did kind of happen by accident or good fortune, depending on what the car wizard says, but these were already on my radar after watching clarkson's farm on amazon prime, i don't know if you all have seen it, but it's Jeremy, carson of the old top gear, fame uh, starting and running a farm, and he has all the money in the world.
He made a million pounds per episode in top gear back in the day and he's driving around in one of these an older range rover. Sport and i could hear the supercharger when he's stuck in the mud and well, i can see why jesus is going the highway. What more do you need than that? I mean if you go with a newer one, you have basically the same power and you're spending way way more money. I mean, even if you go with a 2014 or newer, where you don't have to worry about this timing chain thing exploding at any moment.

You're spending well in this car's case is 8 500 bucks, but really, i think, the cheapest one of those is still in the 30s, so triple quadruple to get one of those whereas well owning this. And yes, it's a ticking time bomb but in the long run, you're probably doing better. At least i think so right now, there's no warning lights on other than the tire pressure monitor system. But at some point the suspension light will come on.

Sometimes it's the bad light saying a pullover: don't go over 30 miles an hour, a bad error, but other than that and a few well little clunks in the front end. It feels totally fine and the motor is quiet. As you can hear. Startup, it's quiet, hot cold, start quiet all the time.

So what gives this is supposed to be the most unreliable range rover in the world and i guess we'll find out if that's actually the case when we get to the car wizards, wish me luck. Wizard! Behold! You, like, i do love range rovers. This is a very special one. 2010 range rover sport autobiography supercharged the first year, the 510 horsepower v8 uh.

Also, probably the most unreliable range rover ever made. I would agree with that, but it was only 8 500 bucks. Well, there's a reason why it was only 85 well, it drives great. I mean urination bob found this at a buick dealer and it had a dead battery.

I think he kind of stole it and he passed the buck along to me, but it does have a suspension error warning light. Sometimes it tells me not to drive over 30 miles an hour because of the suspension warning. The suspension is clunking. I haven't noticed any leaks and the motor is actually quiet, that's good.

That is. That is very good, because we do not want to do timing chain tensioners on these. No, how much is it usually four or five grand? I thought they were more because of the supercharger coming off and everything well, that would add to the labor. Yes, yeah yeah, but uh, that's quiet at least but the rest of it like the suspension areas, i'm a little worried about, but it was very cheap.

I mean look at the interior wizard autobiography two-tone. Oh, it even smells good yep, oh wow! That's why i'm thinking as big of a headache as these cars can be because they're a headache they sell for a lot cheaper than say 2014 or newer, like less than half or a third of what those sell for that. I almost think they're worth it. Maybe they can be, i guess we'll find out kind of a gamble.
One thing i'm noticing before i even get the lift arms under there is there's a lot of clearance here in the wheel. Well, but if you go to the other side like that, oh so you're saying i got a little sag yeah, it's leaning, it's leaning to the passenger side. Okay yeah, my fist doesn't even fit on that side. Something's going on with that, that's kind of uh could be a ride, height sensor.

Who knows here we go uh, it looks dry, it's not all wet there. That's a great start. It is no leaks. Yay and the axle boots.

Look: okay, yep! Those look good! The brakes here well they're, nice and thick about 80 left. I don't feel anything loose there, really i'm getting a little clunk in the suspension, but is it not not annoying? Is it up front or in the back it's definitely up front yeah. It looks like this control arm's been replaced yeah, but the other one hasn't. I bet the replaced one because of clunking.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ball joint is just lightly barely clunking. Well, that would make sense. It's a common failure point on these okay. Well, i guess you can price that out for me, since otherwise, very very nice, nice and dry there.

That's a miracle. Nice, that's a little shaft there, the front one yep transfer case dry, nice and dry that shaft's a little bit beefier. That's good exhaust is all stock big transfer case with the u-joint. That's good nothing's leaking here on the differential.

Those cv boots are good airbags, good the brakes are about 60 back here, don't feel anything loose there. I don't really feel anything there. The boots are good check the tires to spare it's good. Amazingly, it's actually pretty good other than your clunk and your error message.

You're getting so i purposely buy the most unreliable range rover ever built. It happens to be one that has well it's immaculate. Looking underneath yeah, it just looks very clean under here. I guess we could plug in see what the error codes are on the suspension so something electrical.

I guess huh yeah, let's take a look. Well, what do you got wow? I i've never seen only one code on a range rover air suspension system, but the pressure does not decrease when venting gallery. That's like is it it can't fart, that's right, the exhaust valve when the compressor is not letting air to release, so it can't release there. So it's basically like it's got gas yeah! Oh, i know what that feels like this poor car.

So how do you uh fix that? I just get it really you're supposed to replace the compressor ever so often, so you just get a compressor. It comes with an exhaust valve okay, it solves it all, probably about four or 450 for that, and then, if i did, the other control arm also probably another four to four fifty for that, so less than a thousand dollars i mean there's no reason to go. Sit down in your office - and you just hit me with it, and this thing's perfect. Those two things would make this thing solid.
This is supposed to be the most unreliable range rover ever made. Is this one going to be sold as well? No, that was the last video that nothing else is for sale now. This is this: is it okay, so this one's not going anywhere yeah feel free to order the parts i guess and i'll uh head on my merry way all righty. Well, there is a bill.

What for the blazer that old 70s? Oh my parents, well, my okay! My dad will pay me back for that. So that's not bad! All right! Thank you for watching.
