Hello, hello: i need a very durable condom and zip ties. We are here at the amelia island concord elegance and we actually made it because we brought reliable cars this time. I don't know about yours, it's not known for its reliability. Is it okay? Well, that sounds missy doesn't it this is the closest i've ever been to a private jet.
The doors have been ready. Look at that tyler! Are you a member of the mile high club? Well, never with a partner your dream. Cars are safe with us, but we have given you a generous budget to buy a duplicate of your first car. Oh they're, right on my tail.
Get him get him get him. We need his channel he's the only one that gets views. I'm sorry! Oh wow, tyler! Just took off - oh my goodness, i'm coming on your inside no he's inside got him. You're gon na be the first person to get stabbed in the neck by a volkswagen key unless you say something nice about my work: okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, i'm gon na need some popcorn.
If we're gon na keep this going and i'd love to keep this going - oh my god today does not today is a good day. Come on. Ah, welcome to hoovy's garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and, as you saw earlier, car trek is back coming out. September 6.
really fun episode where we have our dream cars that we purchased and then they are ripped away from us and we have to buy our very first cars that we bought with our own money. So very nostalgic for me just like today's video is very very nostalgic because apollo 911, a car that i abandoned almost four years ago and then bought back because i i missed it is alive. I get to drive it for the first time today and there are other vehicles up here like the jurassic park, jeep that are coming out of mothballs after many years of storage uh for a future car trek there's also progress on several other vehicles today. But let's talk about apollo 911 first for those who haven't been following since basically day, one i purchased this 911 with 238 000 miles on it, something like that for only 9 500 making the cheapest porsche 911 in the usa since 996 prices.
This chassis of 911 have exploded to very expensive levels, but this one was obviously tired, but despite the engine sounding tired and the epic mileage, two ims bearings, i think actually three. If you count the original, it ran and drove great up until i took it to the track and starved it for oil and blew the motor. I made the decision long long ago to ls swap it. It was my first big build project on youtube and the wizard was in a very small shop in halstead with holes in the walls, and i actually had to help him because he didn't have well any other option for help.
I'm sure he would love anybody else, but me, but i helped him, take the engine out, put it in things here and there and well it lived for a very short time. Unfortunately, i decided to take it back to the track and test it and because the engine is mounted backwards, all the g-force is going the wrong way versus when it was in a corvette. It's an ls3, v8. Well, it started one of the bearings and blew the motor. I was so disgusted at that point because i'd spent all of this money. Basically, ten thousand dollars on a credit card, hoping the videos would pay for it and well they did pay for it, but then it broke right there again and i decided you all didn't want to see me go through this process for a second time. Nor did i really have the money to pay for it, so i sold it moved on to other cars, but then well i missed it and actually the person i sold it to really didn't do all that much other than take out the old motor buy a New one and left it you know kind of apart, and so i was actually able to buy the car back more or less how i got it and uh. Well now it runs it runs, but before we drive apollo 911 and catch up on other hoopties, i'd like to thank shipstation for sponsoring today's video shipstation is the leading web-based order management and shipping software designed to make retailers exceptionally efficient at processing, fulfilling and shipping their E-Commerce orders: i had a few ideas to sell some different merch for the holidays, like signed photos of the recent ser mix-a-lot album cover or cutting pieces of my leftover mybach, the door in the rear quarter into little coins.

That's two months of no hassle free, stress-free shipping. That's shipstation.com hovey's make ship happen just like the car wizard is doing back at his shop. Yes, a trip down memory, lane wizard look at these two, the first season of car issues, which would actually start filming the second season next week. It's amazing! I can't wait on motor trend.
This is four years ago you had hair yeah. I had hair no longer anymore, it's weird because it was just on motor trend and there's gon na be such a big time jump in places and hoopty fleets and things but uh in buildings. Actually we're gon na use this jeep for car trek six. Okay, i'm going to be off-roading in it, it's been sitting in a museum for years. So if you look it over for me and make sure it's all right, i know it's leaking some transmission fluid. Also the four-wheel drive doesn't work, it doesn't work. No, i don't know that it's ever worked. Has it i don't think so yeah i got stuck in the first season so yeah.
I need it to work for what we're doing in card trick. Uh, but apollo 911 is not stuck right. I'm not stuck look at this crazy. Ls.
V8, stuffed back in here and working it's just as powerful as i remember it as well. It's amazingly powerful. Can you start it up sure it has this exhaust on too sounds very yachty. Doesn't it it does sound like a yacht, a big block, yacht verbally, wonderful? Well, i'm going to drive this thing.
I guess right you! Let me i'm going to be the test driver in a little bit before we do that. Let's move on to uh other projects. I actually need your help, making a decision on something, and that decision is with this bad boy. My 1979 porsche 911 sc target that was hacked into a cabrio and the engine did finally get shipped off to leonard and he has the verdict.
I haven't told you this yet: okay actually looks pretty good in there and he has like various tiers of things that he could do from. Basically, the minimum replacing head studs putting in new piston rings just because cleaning things up, putting it back together. That would only be like three thousand dollars: that's not bad for a porsche engine or i could do a full head rebuild. I mean it just goes up from there.
It could be. You know seven eight thousand dollars for a head rebuild and he was pushing towards uh completely ditching the uh bosch fuel injection system and going with this crazy, carburetor setup that he loves. I think i would go with carburetor over the bosch stuff really yeah. Well, the problem with that is uh then we're up to like 12 13 000 dollars.
Maybe the sport exhaust, it would really wake the thing up and then the engine would be fully built. It would be worth it money-wise. The engine will be worth what i put into it, but is it worth putting it into into this so basically like three grams to the minimum or seven eight grand to do the right thing by this car and do all the things like the head rebuild the Things you're supposed to do new timing chains, that kind of stuff - or do you go crazy? I don't know i'll have to see what they say. It could be interesting to see the comic they're saying right, but there's going to be plenty more to go through on this car once it's in, because the interior is well uh, yeah, not not not great, but i'm going to leave the exterior, as is on this Car because i love the patina, look of it and it's well a hacks target, so there's no point in restoring it right, so i plan to go into that cheap and now i'm considering spending way too much money. We've seen this movie before uh, but another vehicle here is my riptide blue escalade. We finally had some problems. Unfortunately, the climate control would just blow to full heat in the most inopportune times. I'd have to stop turn the thing off turn it back on again.
In order for it to reset nothing else, i could do and you found the issue. It's just a uh blender actuator. It's gone bad, it's common on these, these years of gm vehicles. They have blend or mode actuator recirculate.
They all fail like they drop like flies. I see yeah and then the steering wheel was acting all funny. As far as like the controls and everything, i would hit the volume knob and it would trigger onstar and that kind of stuff which i was just waiting until something else broke, to bring it up. To you for that and there's a clock spring right: yep we got it all apart.
We got all the harness and everything out, but yeah it should take care of it. How much am i looking at here - probably going to be six to eight hundred bucks for all of it, not bad? No, it's not horrible yeah! I didn't spend a dime on this thing since it showed up. So these are really fantastic, reliable vehicles. They really are.
Unfortunately, we'll never get anything like this ever again, something that's simple yet comfortable and luxurious. Everything else is now so electronically complicated that this is kind of it. My grandma's sl is done so i'll, probably take that home, because i'm leaving you the jeep, which i drove up - okay but uh. The murcielago is also up here.
Unfortunately, yes, magic mike, is getting very, very familiar with the belt tensioner and belt system. On this thing, huh yeah - these are very sensitive to belt alignment and we're having to use shims and move this entire bracket that holds accessories back and forth. We got it pretty dead on straight and we're doing some adjustments with the tensioner. I think we'll have it.
The problem i'm having with this car ever since i got it back was a squeak and it's a really annoying light squeak. That's there all the time for, like 10 to 15 minutes until it's fully warmed up - and i do some hard acceleration runs. Then it usually goes away unless it's cold outside then it's there all the time. So i've been dealing with that.
We've tried a few things, but now we're going full hard michael's going hard on it. I don't know what i i need to word that better um. You are bent over the thing, but i i can't talk yeah we're working to get it solved, so it doesn't do that anymore. That was the only thing wrong with this.
No, if we can get the squeak done, it's perfect, it is perfect and then something else will break because that's that's the rule. Yeah, that's right, the rule, at least with me, but yeah, your uh wizard flashlight technique is getting very strong. Their magic mike so fingers crossed there and actually, how could we forget this elephant in the room? Any progress with the hummer. We just got some parts in today we've been waiting for parts from your guy. Oh yes, newretroparts.com in here. Yes, i don't think you can do it at the same time, all kinds of ah suspension, yep, those are some beefy beefy ball joints holy moly. You could almost knock someone out with that thing. Okay, so it looks like there's still a few more bits that need to arrive, but that's all the big suspension stuff, so you can get started on that which is very loose up there and rusty.
All four control arms are being replaced because the old ones yeah that that's a hole, that's a hole, but i get to drive apollo 911 now for the first time in nearly four years, it's been a long time. I never thought i would see it again. It's back it's back and it's alive again. It really didn't.
Take you all that long once you got, i mean it's out here for four months or so you worked on other things, but then i guess it's alive. I didn't expect to be this easy, which usually isn't so. Hopefully i don't blow it up for the fourth time. Third time we do have an oil pan in there that now has baffles and trap doors.
Yes, so that will help yeah okay. Well, i'm i'm going goodness goodness all right so far, so good, it's gon na be a little loud, a lot loud and hot in here, because i have no air conditioning and the cover is off the back. So i have no insulation back there. You can see engine there's the intake, there's the ls than working ls she's back.
Let's do a light pole, just a just a light one real easy into first and go wow. Oh wow! This is so good. I know i kind of cried in my last video. This one's making me emotional too, because when i bought this thing five years ago, five years ago, i was hoping it would help me build a youtube channel, build a following and we'll pay for cool cars and it works it works.
Unfortunately, i gave up on this car too soon when the motor blew, but i kind of had to sell it. I mean i i had to move on to other projects, because at the time i didn't have the money to collect cars, to keep cars that i really wanted. I needed the money to move on to other projects, to make more videos, i'm so lucky to get this thing back and then it works now. The reason i did the ls swap four years ago mostly had to do with cost.
I thought it would be cheaper to do an ls swap rather than to rebuild the original porsche engine which rebuilds at the time were like fifteen thousand dollars uh, but actually turned out to be just as much, if not more, to do than ls swap uh. The parts close to ten thousand dollars, i think, and then the engine itself, another five thousand dollars. I don't remember exactly, but it was a lot of money and then very dejecting. When uh the motor blew on the track now horsepower, you gain versus a stock 911 about 150 horsepower, which is awesome, basically the equivalent of a turbo 911. You have horsepower wise and the power to weight is the same because the engine weighs the same. It's a flat six, obviously, but it's iron, it's heavier the ls engine, all aluminum, so it ends up being a bigger engine but the same weight. Now the center of gravity is probably higher because the engine obviously sits up higher. That's why there's holes and such to get it to fit in there, but really i don't notice it that much when i'm driving it it doesn't feel higher.
The only difference between before and after was the lack of power steering which i could have added toyota free as power steering, but i chose not to after i drove it for the first time. The steering really feels fine, it's actually easier to turn in a parking lot than say my lamborghini countach or something. But i named this thing apollo 911, because it had traveled the distance for the moon and back 240 000 miles. Now it's at almost 250 000 miles and i think i'm keeping apollo 911 to the moon and back welcome back babe welcome home wizard, you beautiful manu, it's good thing, there's a safety barrier here, oh, i would jump into your arms and kiss you and everything else.
Oh, would you now? Yes, yes, so where's the bill. I will pay whatever you want me to pay. I i have to apologize to you. I don't i don't have one today he doesn't have a bill, it's not it's not done.
The gauges need to be hooked. Back up and the interior put back together so it's i came up here. We made a video and i don't have to give you any money. No isn't that rare! Thank you for watching you.
This channel has single handedly put two full shops worth of mechanics children through ivy league schools…
Stop buying crap. You're putting in more than what you would ever recoup. In the end, it's a waste. But, to each his own.
GET RID OF IT, that porche (not porchA) ๐ has been butchered. get the basics done and get shut.
Dude…the stationary camera on the curve with the acceleration and shifting took me back to Steve McQueen in his Bullitt mustang…just need to double clutch speed shift that beast….awesome ๐
Wow. The first 911 to sound good. ๐ As for the convertible just crush it. It will look and perform better. ๐
look lot of people will pay this car my father is car collector that same car but in different color was sold for 75k af fixing and running so good
You guys truly should be the next Top Gear Crew ( or Grand Tour once they call it done) and truly the only ones I believe suit the role since Jeremey, James, and Richard departed. You guys not only have talent, but you have the chemistry together to make it work.
Are you part of the mile high club?
Well, not with a partner.
Thatโs comedy gold right there.
Every german engineer, is holding there head right now and screaming NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN!!!!! ๐๐๐
The MY96 is all aluminum. It's the bread loaf crankshaft support and the wide DOHC heads that add the weight. Pushrod aluminum block V8's have so many fewer parts. That's where the weight savings come in.
The Porsche is already wild looking you might as well put a wild engine in it with a carburetor
My dads suburban had the same problem as that Escalade I remember only his side would turn to heat and I would sit in the air-conditioning
F-Y-I, 240,000 miles is the mean distance going from the Earth to its Moon. It is NOT the distance to go to and then return from from the moon.๐ค
