There we go welcome to movies garage, the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube, and i am so excited now. I am no pierce brosnan most certainly, but i do look like him since i just bought this a 2001 bmw, z8 pierce brosnan is my james bond, and this was the best car that he drove of his films and tomorrow never dies a bmw z8, and i Consider this to be the best bmw of all time for many reasons which we will get to in a bit, but first the backdrop i'm here in houston, where i got this car, the astro dome is behind me. It kind of looks like a bond villain lair, but it opened in 1965 about a year after the very first bond movie, and that's where i found this incredible v8 now they've been priced well way out of reach for me as of recent. So when this one popped up at a number that seemed affordable and i made an offer and they accepted - i can't believe it - m5 powered six-speed manual, retro-styled perfection right here and it's mine and now we're going to drive it 500 miles home and see if it Lives up to the hype, but first i'm going to give you a tour of this incredible z8, but before we start the tour and the journey home in a 20 year old, bmw product.

I'd like to thank auto tempest for sponsoring today's video and the bmw dream team. This was the hardest piece of the puzzle to find, since it was the most expensive of what i consider to be the greatest automotive lineup of all time, 2001. Bmw with an incredible lineup of cars that they never really celebrated and it's been 20 years, the 3 series, with the e46 m3 the 5 series with the m5, i recently purchased a basket case project the z3, the x5, the 7 series all great beautiful cars that Bmw has kind of forgotten they had moved on at the time to the bengal butt of cars and auto tempest is making this possible. They are the best way to search for a used car online as they combine all the major listing sites into one search and you can do advanced searches by color, which i was looking for.

All the cars in silver or by transmission six-speed manual. They were all six-speed manuals unless they they're alpena's on these. You can get very specific and it combines all the major listing sites in one search. I love searching for cars.

It's something i do on a daily basis and auto tempest is the best way because you don't have to put in the same search inputs on every single site. Like you used to before auto tempest existed now, you clicking the link below and searching auto tempest makes hooves garage, the dream team and so many other things possible, including car tricks. So thank you so much for that. Please continue to do so every single day and whenever you're shopping for a used car, but please also be an evangelist for the site.

If somebody is looking for a car - and i know it's really hard to find one right now in today's market - tell them to use auto tempest i mean make auto tip, is the first thing you say to anybody on the street, just walk up and say hello, Auto tempest or just hum the tune as you walk around in a crowd or something like that very very helpful - to spread the word of auto tempest because they support so many of us and it is a great tool for shopping for cars. So now with that, let's start a tour of this incredible z8. Oh my god! I own this thing, so there are many reasons why i think this is the greatest bmw of all time and that's starting with the styling. This thing was styled after the legendary bmw 507, which the most famous owner had to be elvis presley, which he drove around in germany when he was in the service and well.
It was originally white his car, but the girls kept kissing it. The red lipstick that he had to repaint it red just to have to stop constantly cleaning it, i'm sure they were kissing it because they loved elvis but also the car. Well, it's easy to kiss the 507 was such a beautiful design, and i am such a sucker for retro throwbacks, and this one was so well done. You can see the fenders the way they pop up like a classic car.

You have the gills here on the side, which is very much like the 507, but the whole body is aluminum and very, very modern. Now they unveiled this car in the 1999 bond film tomorrow never dies and it was bmw's third product placement in a film, and i imagine it was their last because in this one well it barely got used. He drove it around a little bit then in one quick chase sequence, where he used a stinger missile that popped out out of the headlights to take down one helicopter. It got sawed in half and for that reason i wonder if bmw was just like uh screw.

It i'm tired of seeing our cars getting destroyed in films and not really doing anything in the movie before that it was an e387 series that got crashed out of a parking garage and into a rental car return and the one before that the z3. Well, it wasn't a worthy bond car, so they barely use it. The z3 is fine, but i mean it's not a bond car. So ever since this car was sawed in half the seed was planted for me to buy one of these, but they were very expensive.

New around 120 000 and a lot of people didn't get it in the united states, especially since the z3 was around for well way, less than half the price. And then the m cars came out as well, which got really hot engines and they were well still. Half the price, so these didn't sell all that. Well, even though they were really cool and well, they were sort of forgotten bmws until very recently, of course, until i actually wanted to buy one now, this one has the hard top on it, which it is a convertible, so i can remove the hard top and It has apparently a new top from bmw inside the retro theme continues here.

With this banjo steering wheel, you can see the gauges are in the middle, i mean just so dang cool and it's unlike anything, bmw has done well. As of recent, just a great retro throwback - and one thing i love - are the tail lights. They are neon, as you can see, they light up in a really cool way, but it's not just the looks that people love about these cars. It's also well.
What's under the hood one of bmw's greatest engines of all time here you have the m5 v8, almost 400 horsepower in an all aluminum car and the same six-speed manual in all of them. Now they came out with the alpena later the alpena z8 and they introduced that with an automatic transmission, because people wanted it automatic. But really this is the one to get maybe get the alpena wheels, which i may be getting, because these chrome wheels definitely aren't bond. Spec and they're starting to pit a little bit, but you want the stick shift.

Z8. Now this is a bmw, so it has all the normal mechanical foibles of bmw of this era, the same as the m5, with all the issues with the engine but unique to the z8. Of course, there is an engineering snafu. It's with these shock towers right here.

If you hit a pothole really hard, these things will start to bulge and warp and will eventually crack and most of them had the performance kit put on them. A brace here that would go across the engine to help prevent that. Also, if you got rid of the run flat tires, it would help with that, because you had more shock absorption, this one, obviously not the original tires, but they didn't brace it, which is a bold move, so a little worried driving this thing home. Hopefully i don't hit a pothole, but this thing has survived this long and survived very well.

Of course it only has 37 000 miles on it. I can't believe i was able to get it for what i was able to buy, for it was the cheapest bmw. Z8 in the usa, and it does run beautifully, push button start and it sounds well sounds like a bmw, m5. Oh, that's so good! I haven't driven this thing.

Very much just actually picked it up at the dealership, which is the same place. I bought my sls from autodynamics, which is a fantastic dealership and walking and seeing this bmw z8 for the first time, which i did film, but i was too overwhelmed by the moment to actually seem like a somewhat intelligent person, but their inventory their facility really really Nice and great people - they took this thing on consignment and got me a great deal. A lot of long-term customers there so obviously great place to deal with, but look at this well, almost 37 000 miles we're gon na turn it over on this journey home. I've really never taken this thing on the highway, so we're about to do that right now.

Hopefully, this thing lives up to the hype. In my head from a little kid, i had never driven one of these before until i picked this one up here in person, i bought it about three weeks prior but was waiting until coming down for barrett-jackson houston. I do their live tv coverage to pick up. This car, it was a long long way, but so far so far it's living up to the hype, but we have a long journey ahead.
So, let's hit the road - oh just buttery, smooth and thank goodness this thing is so comfortable i'll reserve judgment until i'm on the road a few hundred miles. But the seats do feel very, very nice in this car, and i have plenty of room with this hard top really really great head room actually. So i think i'm in for a treat here - and one thing i noticed with this car is when i hit the sport button. There is a noticeable difference in power immediately.

The left lane to take a slight left turn. Yes, gps, i'm going to merge here shortly, but first i'm going to do a youtube video and do a little pull as i enter the highway here we go all the power didn't chirp the tires on that shift. This is so smooth. Oh, it's so good wow and now we're going to six and we're cruising close.

Slow down. Take exit 38c on the right onto south freeway towards state highway. 288 south! Do what we do. Okay call the gps and don't get hit.

Oh my goodness! This car is something forever. I always wondered: why are these cars so dang expensive, yes, they're cool, but why are they selling for more than their original msrp? Well, that ends today. This thing should be worth a whole lot more considering how scarce it is, how amazing it looks and the way this drives. This is an experience you can't buy anymore, and now i get to drive in it all day.

There's the houston skyline right there look at that! Just look at it. It's still a 20 year old bmw though so i'm crossing my fingers and toes, but so far so good. The view is awesome. What a car wow yeah yeah that that's dangling! That's a thing! Dial-Up internet, you know 200 miles in and we have our first warning light for what i believe is tire pressure.

It's flashing, which i hope means the tire pressure monitor system is messed up and not that i'm losing a tire, because the z8 has no spare, and i don't believe these are run flats and we are 300 miles from home. No hissing, no hissing, no hissing good, good, false alarm, just a bmw, being a bmw back on the road made it to just outside of dallas still almost halfway home. The bmw is doing pretty well we'll check the tire pressures, but now we have our next issue, which i noticed when i first got this thing and needed to fill it up. Well, one of them is the trunk struts.

Unfortunately, they are completely toast, so they won't hold themselves up crap, but the reason why i need to get in here is because of the fuel door. It does not pop it works, the electric thing can go, you hear the noise, but it does not pop the cap. Unfortunately, now i need to do this. I'm probably gon na have to put you down, but i need to pull this green tab and then, at the same time i have to pry this open with this little well tool here this stick and then i can actually put gas in this thing.

It's a six figure car, but it's still a bmw. It's a hooptie! There we go well. The tire pressure monitor system was absolutely right. I did have a low tire, but not that low.
It got just below 20 psi and triggered the light. So it's working. Otherwise. This car is doing fantastic, we're in oklahoma.

Now i'd have to stop for fuel again soon and uh. Well, very happy with this car at least it's not doing that whatever's happening there doesn't look good fingers crossed. It's happened to me before and let me tell you this last 400 miles has just flown away with the nice stereo the comfortable seats and looking out over this, it's just so pretty, and the car is so fun to drive. It's like a cobra shelby cobra.

In a tuxedo a lot more insulation, much quieter, just one more fuel stop and then we'll be within the hundred mile aaa tow range, which means we've made it look at these beautiful gauges. As we cross the finish line, we made it. We made it home. How awesome is that q's not going like this? Now there is the ninja.

Thank you for watching. I found a z, an actual c8. Would you look at it and i'm gon na? Take it right now in a hurricane in houston, i forgot to mention that there's a hurricane going on right now and i'm buying a convertible, but i'm still taking it.

The car is not enough… sorry it just doesn’t look like a good bond car, nor does it look like it should have cost more than 50k.

LOVE your sense of humor, and most especially, about BMWs and their lack of reliability (I've been there with several of them). I am thoroughly jealous of your car collection, but most especially this Z8. I've absolutely loved these since they came out, but doubt I will ever be able to afford one. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your experience.

Oh so radical, no Hofmeister kink. The E39 with the S62 is still a masterpiece, can't imagine in the E53, must be fun.

This is why I stop messing around with these types of cars. These are the surprises a used car dealer hates to deal with on the drive away from a purchase.

World is not enough (1999). Tomorrow never dies had the 1997 BMW 750IL. That quite arguably was the best Brosnan Bond car.

the only thing that would have made the ending better is if hoovie walked the other way into the edit XD

I remember these things could not sell when they were new and sat in the dealer with big mark downs, next to the z3 clown shoe. Fast forward and the clown shoe became cult-like desirable and this became unattainable. This is a Z8 is a sweet ride.

I'm gonna guess that for a 20 year old car that's barely driven, your tire pressure warning actually means that one of the four sensor batteries in the wheels has given up the ghost and is no longer sending a signal.

Don't just kick the tires to confirm pressure, by the way. Carry an actual gauge with you and don't be afraid to use it. This is Buying a Car Out of Town 101.

Amazing BMW, but I went through many comments. HOW IS NO ONE MENTIONING THE RED TRANS AM WS6 SITTING NEXT TO THE COUNTACH?!?!?!?! Tyler always leaving hints of future cars/videos to come. Could not be happier! As I own a Pewter 2000 Trans Am WS6

being bristish and watching bond films from the beginning non bristish cars in a bond film was the worst thing to happen to them as joe blogs can go buy a bmw a aston or lotus is not a daily car.
ive owed two bmw e46 330i's, a 2002 bmw 545 estate, bmw 2001 740il and that era of bkw are crazy strong, well built amd designed to 250k all day long with regular servicing and maintenance.
my current 2018 bmw 320d company car has gone wrong 11 times (all sensor and one oil leak from a sump bolt) since ive had it and took the dealer 7.5months to fix in the mean time i put 46k on their 520d estate trouble free other that a knock limit sensor failing. defo not built like they used to be lucky to get no issues while still under warranty anythingnmade in japan is still a must for trouble free motoring

I wish I could have this thing so badly. If I ever make a bunch of money, I’m gonna buy the obscure rare cars that many don’t think are really that rare. And then I’ll build all kinds of stuff.

Elvis' car wasn't painted red because of kisses, it was painted lipstick red because girls left names and numbers. In Lipstick.
